Tendinitis in Left Wrist

My doctor prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs to take in order take care of my tendinitis from guitar playing. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if my additional gastrointestinal problems would permit the use of them since they are known for having negative effects on the digestive system.

So, my question is, can anyone suggest any alternative therapies? Should I keep it in a sling and avoid my guitar for a month or two? My doctor suggested that I do not exercise my wrist, as that will cause more aggravation. Is stretching okay? I've been using ice daily, and it seems to work alright, but the pain and feeling of swelling never seems to subside entirely.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Oh, and I also have some aching and "tightness" all around the wrist, including on the topside extending onto the top of the hand.

The pain comes in various forms.

Here is a list of where it occurs most and at what intensity from most often and intense to least often and least intense:

In the middle of my wrist on the underside of my arm; at the wrist on the pinky-finger side; a bit below where the "connection" is from the forearm to the hand on the thumb side.

Also, when it is particularly bad, I can sometimes have burning or pain shoot down my arm either on the underside in the middle of my forearm or on the side of my forearm that my pinky-finger is on.

I have been avoiding my guitar lately, so it isn't too bad right now, but it still feels "stiff" constantly and maybe even swollen.

My doctor did some tests on my nerves and said they were fine. He told me the problem was in inflammation of the tendons that run up my arm and into my hand on the underside of the arm. He did not use any of the terms you listed.

Also, I have noticed a "popping" feeling similar to cracking a knuckle when moving my hand up and down (as if waving "bye bye"), but the same thing happens on my other wrist, so I don't think it is an issue, but I may be wrong.

Thanks for your help!
