Is it normal to have more pain the longer you are in a boot?

Currently 3 weeks in a boot assigned for six weeks for Anterior Ankle Impingement/chronic instability/reoccuring sprains etc. As the ligaments heal they seem to be more sensitive to movement/walking than they were when I started. Primarily pain spot is lateral side of ankle (tibia) where the ligaments connect. The amount that I can walk before I start feeling pain is becoming less and less. Is that normal? It's like I have to crutches more now for pain free walking than I did when I started.

If it's supposed to be healing, no, it's not normal.

Have you had an MRI done? I had a lot of what you had, with the instability and reoccurring sprains, pain, etc., and I had torn anterior ligaments, and needed reconstructive surgery. This was back in 2004, so I don't know if treatments have changed and they try to avoid surgery now, and start with a boot.

Have you talked to your doctor about your increasing pain? You should.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I know it sucks.

Yeah. Started with just bracing it and switch to boot and crutches for six weeks. Kind of feels like I'm pulling on the scar tissue or the collagen that is being created by healing.
Or that could be the impingement, maybe? When do you follow up with your doctor? Maybe give him/her a call?
