back pain standing/walking for 2-3 minutes

I have severe stabbing pain in my lower back when standing or walking only 2-3 minutes.  It has been coming on for several months with the amount of time decreasing before I must sit down.  Almost immediately on sitting, the pain disappears. When I'm standing it seems to help a bit if I arch my back or bend forward. It doesn't seem to be any worse lifting or bending, just standing upright. I'm nearly confined to the house at this point but I feel fine as long as I'm not standing.

I know it has been years since you posted this but I too suffer. I was told by many MDs that this is a narrowing of the spinal canal called Spinal Stenosis. If you look that up it will describe how sitting relieves the pain. I have not been able to find any help for the problem but at least I have a name.

i have same problem but i recovered it 50% by myself.
i atart walk on dailly basis as much as possible.
in starting i was in soo much trouble by walking and after half kilometer i used to sit every where, but after some time i walk around 3 kilometer then sit and then start again.
try to reduce wait.
reduce sex habit as much as possble.
and when you feel so much pain hang your self by your hand one time.

I'm afraid I have the same problem.  Its driving me insane.  I wanted to start my walking again now that the good weather is here and swimming but I'm lucky if I can walk to my kitchen to make a coffee.  I have rheumatoid and I was born with spina bifida so I thought perhaps this might be the culprit but now I'm not so sure.  My doctor is sending me for xrays and ultrasound of my hips since they seem to be involved as well.  It feels like my hips have tight rubber bands around them, giving me a vice type of pain.  I certainly hope they get to the bottom of this soon.  I'll see my rheumatologist in 2 - 3 weeks and the family doctor thinks he should inject my hips with cortisone as well.  Also, he said I may need an MRI.  Its very hard trying to live this way.  I feel like I will end up in a wheelchair if this keeps up.  Its getting worse by the day.  Let's stay in touch to see if one of us comes up with a real diagnosis that may help us all.  Some prayer wouldn't hurt either.  Thanks for listening.  willieonlyone

I am in the same boat, being upright for 30 seconds or more becomes agony and I either have to bend forward, or sit down in order to alleviate the pain. I'm so fed up with it now, I can't do anything! I had an x-ray which was ok, and am booked in for an MRI scan next Friday, but am terrified they will say again there is nothing wrong and send me on my way....!!! The relief from sitting when I have the pain is immediate. What the heck is wrong with us?!

I have the exact same problem. Have you managed to find out what it is yet? I am going to see my Dr. (who once thought I was troubled with Ciatica) and tell him that he needs to find out what's wrong. I can't tolerate the pain anymore. Trammadol 100mg plus tylenol arthritis does not even make a dent in the pain. I feel like people thing I'm faking because if I stand up to cook a meal I can't get through it. It is, on a scale from 1 to 10, very close to 10. I just can't tolerate the pain anymore. I refuse to take narcotic pain relievers. I don't want to mask the pain I want to aleviate it!
