Ankle Injury

I fell at work and hurt my ankle.  When I got up I could barely walk on it.  I immediately went to the doctor for x-rays.  The x-rays did not show that the ankle was broken.  When I left the doctor's office, I barely made it to the car, it hurt so bad and I absolutely couldn't walk on it.  The doctor told me to get crutches, ice and elevate it for a few days and if it didn't get better, call him and he would refer me to an orthopedic doctor.  Well, I've did the treatment and have been using crutches since the injury.  It has been 5 days and it is still a little swollen and blue.  I still can't walk on it but I can put a little pressure while still using crutches.  Do I need to go back to the doctor?  Should I have a splint or boot or something because I really need to work and be hands free for work  but it is so difficult to work with crutches?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

You sure have a ligament tear and for this you need a splint or crepe bandage to limit the movements at the ankle and decrease the swelling and inflammation.

Continue with ice packs and intermittent pain killers.

Rest your leg and do not put pressure on the affected leg.

For proper diagnosis it is always good to follow up with an orthopedician as an examination would reveal everything.

Take care!
