hip arthroscopy vs. open surgery

I am a fifteen year old girl (having just completed my final season of cheerleading i would say that i am in relatively good shape too) who has just been diagnosed with a large tear to my anterosuperior labrum. This tear was caused by a Femoralacetabular Impingement (FAI). I have been told that having arthroscopic surgery will get me back on my feet quickly, and i was have little scarring since it is minimally invasive. My doctor has also given me the choice of open surgery, which will have a longer recovery time and more scarring (this surgery is highly invasive and i will have an incision running from my waist line to mid thigh [according to my physical therapist]). Although arthroscopic surgery seems the more likely to choice, i am debating the open surgery. Open surgery, according to my doctor, is much more accurate and has been performed much more than arthroscopic surgery. With the arthroscopic surgery, if they are not highly accurate, i may need yet another surgery in the future. This surgery may even be a hip replacement. I have also heard the arthroscopic surgery may cause arthritis in my hip anywhere as early as in my mid twenties. Is this true? Which surgery would you choose if i were your daughter?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Arthroscopic surgery is done by experienced people at a good centre. If you go to a good facility go ahead, as when you have a choice for the latest technology you can always avail it. But, if your surgery cannot be possible then think about open surgery. Open surgery is more invasive and it is upto you and your confidence on the surgeon and the facility to take the decision.
Good centre, experieiced hands go for Arthroscopic, take care!
