post spinal surgery

I had lower back surgery 2 yrs ago. This involves L3-5&S1.It has been fused and rods inserted.I have trouble sleeping because of the rods.My doctor said He could remove the rods now. My question is "Will my fusion still be as strong and stable without the rods?" It seems I feel more secure having the rods there because I never ever want to experience that surgery. Will it hold up?

Hello!

See that you are explained all the pros and cons by your surgeon as you are very sure that you would not need another surgery.

You can check with a latest present day X-ray and an MRI about the state of your lower back and about the healing before going ahead with removal of rods.

Take care!

The Dr. would not remove rods unless back was stable...but that is a question you should be asking him.....

I think you will be just fine!!!

Ask the Doctor now!
