10cm ovarian mass

I went to the ER this past monday night expecting a kidney stone diagnosis but got the diagnosis of a large ovarian mass instead.I am 45 y/o and have had a hysterectomy both ovaries intact. My gynecologist was able to work me in on Thursday and he is taking me into surgery on Tuesday. He doesn't think its cancerous from feel but did run the ca-125 test.I get those results monday when I go in for pre op.He is doing a laperotomy to remove it.Should I just be prepared for an overnight stay??Oh and they found the mass by CT scan.Would love to know what to expect and how long I should be down.

The threat of taking a large cyst out is that if it had cancer it could leak  into your abdomen.  The Obgyn is counting on it not being cancer. If you had CA 125s done by different labs then they can be different. Many things can cause an elevated ca 125. I would go with the doctor my gut feels best with. You can get another opinion. I got the oncologist from the University where my husband works. I was so scared because I was clearly full of cancer that I just went with this guy. I did not like him at the first meeting. I did not know that was the only meeting with him. I never saw him again only residents and my nurse. He could not be bothered with me. I ended up changing doctors and hospitals in the middle of chemo 2 1/2 months later. He did a good surgery. When I was all scared facing the chemo I just had no support. I believe in my gut. The minute I met this doctor I should have run.

98.6% of ovarian tumors, cysts are benign. They were sure I had cancer from my ultrasound. If it is the fast track you. I was in surgery in 5 days from my ultrasound. They just can't say 100% it is not cancer.

It all depends on what they find as to how long you will be laid up. For laperotemy it can be over night. I had cancer so I had everything removed including a lot of extra stuff. I walked the next day. The gas pain was my biggest pain. I was sore it was surgery. I could not laugh, sneeze, or cough. I had to put a pillow to my tummy. I told people not to tell jokes. If they were thinking cancer they would not do it with laperotemy. They would not want the cyst to leak. It sounds like you are in good hands. Statistically you have 1.4% of ovarian cancer in your life time. That means 98.6% it is not cancer if that helps.

Hi! I also have a 10cm mass on my ovary. At first I was told it was 10cm. Then they did a repeat ultrasound and was told it was 8.4cm. Plus a 4cm cyst on my right ovary. I have seen an OB GYN and a Gynecologic Oncologist. The OB GYN suggested a laporoscopic cystectomy. The Oncologist suggested a laparotomy because he can't take a large cyst out of a tiny hole! Those were his words. Both doctors suspect endometriosis and possibly endometriomas. What kind of doctor are you seeing? I am so confused because I signed up on another site and everyone is telling me to go to an oncologist or a university hospital and I am just so stressed out. I had a CA-125 twice. The first time it was 190 but this time it was 110. I am so upset the oncologist has not even schedueled me for surgery even though I told him O wamted this taken care of ASAP! The OB GYN wants to do it by the end of this month. But I don't want to make the wrong decision and pick the wrong person to do surgery on me! I was first told about my cysts at the end of October and here I am still waiting.
