CA125 Results

I finished my chemo at the end of June.  Had a CA125 Blood test in August and it was 23.  Just had another one this week and it is 32.  Doctor says its still OK because it is under 35.  I'm having CAT scans done this week on my chest, pelvic and abdomin area.  Should I be concerned about the elevation or is this somewhat normal at this time..  I was operated on in February with a full hysterectomy and all surrounding areas where negative for cancer.  Treatment was precautionary and they say it is stage one.

I've read your results and they are fabulous.  I couldn't be happier for you.  It is great to hear good news and it gives everyone else hope.  I always try to look at the glass as half full but some times this illness is draining.

I've been waiting to hear the results of my Cat Scans for a week an a 1/2.  I feel great but I just worry about those darn numbers.  I plan on keeping a close eye on those numbers because I feel like I'm responsible for my own fate with this cancer.  Does it ever get better or do cancer survivors continue to live from one test to another for the rest of their lives?  I find myself constantly wanting some kind of reassurance from all my doctors but get very little.

Dear Amy,

I agree with Conquerer. However, I would suggest repeating the values monthly for a few months. Sometimes there is lab variation so you might see 23 - 32 - 27 - 31-20- 35 etc

On the other hand if each CA 125 result is a little higher than the previous one, that needs to be investigated.
If your scans are normal but the CA 125 is going up, you should ask your doctor about a diagnostic laparoscopy.

best wishes

many things effect the number.  It is a response number. ex inflamation, cold etc.  If stage one I would breath a deep sigh of relief
congratualtions
