Can I get my ulta-sound film or disk?

Hi,
My gyn is on vacation. I'm going for an US on Friday (sent to by my gyn). On MondayI have a appt. with gyn/onc for 2nd opinion. I was asked to bring with me the film/disks of the US. The US will be done in a local hospital. My question is, will they give it to me? Thanks in advance, Staying calm, Cathy

I have requested my films from the hospital...call in advance tell them you need the films you will have to sign a release that you are taking them and they should have them ready when you pick them up. If they refuse you can than ask the doctor to request them and they can be sent to him..they should give you the films as they are yours to have. Good Luck.

After reading your input I got my nerve up and called the hospital. They said they can sign them out to me (they need them for the first 24 hrs, to look at themselvs), and asked that I later return them. I admit I am always nervouse about dealing with beuracracy (forget spelling that) of institutions, hence my concern - I lived most of my life in a middle east country, not as "customer freindly" as the US. So thanks to you all, one less thing to worry about! Cathy

In Canada, I can go into the hospital and retrieve a copy of either my CT scans or US - I just have to sign a waiver. Sadly, I can take those, but they won't give me the written report that goes along with it! Go figure...

Outpatient clinics allow you to get film/disk from the imaging department along with the report.  Hospitals usually make you go to both imaging and medical records in order to get copies of both.  They cannot deny you these records because they are yours-you paid for them-as long as you sign a release.

I went to medical records to get my report and they wouldn't release it to me, because they said it had to be requested by a doctor. Needless to say, I filed a complaint with the hospital about the whole thing...they want you to be responsible for your healthcare but then don't give you the resources to do it? Didn't make sense to me....
