Deandra - Memory Quilt

I don't know who remembers but we made a memory quilt for Deandra's family.......
I must admit that I dropped the ball on the project.  While working on it over a year ago, my machine broke. I put it up in the closet with good intentions of finishing it......  I was on facebook and saw a post from the hair salon that Deandra and her husband ran reminding everyone of Ovarian Cancer awareness month.  That post triggered my memory and I finished the quilt that night.  With guilt and embarrassment, but still a bit of pride, I sent it off to Colorado to the West End Salon.  Turns out that Deandra's aunt lives in the same City as I do and her sister called her to ask if she knew me.  Her aunt found my contact info and called me.  She said the quilt came at the perfect time.  Deandra's mom had been feeling that people had forgotten about her and her legacy was gone.....  She sent me the most amazing thank you note.  I met up with Deandra's aunt, an amazing lady!!  I got a phone message from Deandra's mom yesterday wanting to get in touch with everyone that contributed to the memory quilt.  The hospital that treated Deandra is having the quilt mounted, framed and hung in the cancer ward as a tribute.  So....long story short.....IF you contributed to the quilt in any way, please remind me of what you contributed and if you would like to talk to her mom, I will give you her info in a private message.  She misses her so much and would love to tell you about the amazing daughter she lost WAY TOO YOUNG!!!!!!!

Heidi - thank you so much for sharing, and even more so for the quilt.   Can you post a picture?  Email me one?  I would love to see it.   Please tell Deandra's family that I am honored to have contributed to keeping her legacy alive, and no thank you is needed, it came from the heart, although I didn't really know beyond this forum and Facebook, she was an amazing young woman that was taken from us way too soon.
At the walk we do here on Long Island we have what we call our Quilt of Hope, we have pre-cut squares and people decorate them and then we have a wonderful quilter that puts it all together.  We donate the previous years quilt to different GYN/Oncologists or hospitals.  Quilts are a beautiful way to convey a message.
Heidi - again, thanks for all your hard work in getting this done for us.

Oh Heidi, you are great.  I remember sending quilt pieces to you for both Deandra and Becky's quilt, but never really knew if you did Deandra's or not.  Both these young ladies passings were so sad.  I still wonder about Ty, and hope he is doing well (I don't do facebook), and miss alot of the people from years ago here.  I would love too to see a picture of the finished product.  I think the quilt pieces I sent you for Deandra's part were sea turtles and something else, I can't remember.  I think having the quilt hanging in the hospital is such a beautiful thought.  I know how her mom feels sometimes, that she may feel that their memories may get lost, but you can tell her, that alittle old OV CA fighter/survivor out here in Md, still thinks about all the Teal Angels out there, truly, I do.  Again, I would love to see a picture of the quilt if there is a way, besides facebook.  Thanks again Heidi for all the hard work you put into creating and making those beautiful quilts.   I still every once in a while will go back and read Becky's journal on caringbridge and Deandra's on carepages.

You can go to your home page here and there is a spot for sharing pictures. But I think only "friends" can visit your page and see it. I see people post pictures along with their forum messages but I'm not sure how they do it (you know - sharing a picture of a rash, injured bird, ECG). I'm sure it has to be approved by the moderator first and I'm sure yours would be approved.

I saw the picture on facebook. I can't thank you enough for putting in all that hard work of making the quilt and getting it to the family.
