I had a patient this week that was diagnosed in the late 1980s with OVCA IA. She is now in complete remission. The only symptom she had was pain in her left side. She had previously had her uterus removed and told her doctor that the pain in her side was not going away. Her doctor told her it was just a cyst and would most likely go away on its own. The cyst would go away and then a couple months later would return. She wanted no part of the cyst that once is here and now is gone any longer and begged her doctor to go back in and at least take a look at the ovary. After much hesitation, her doctor went in to remove the ovaries as this lady wished. Pathology came back as OVCA IA. It was confined to the one ovary but there was a samll amount of washings that had cells present too. She said her persistance in making the doctor go back in is what has allowed her to be alive today. So this advice goes to all here-BE PERSISTANT!!! If at the end all is normal then that is great news, but it is the unknown that can be so bad if we are not willing to prod our doctors to see.
