Marking

Dear Friends,

Yesterday, I became a "marked" woman.  Yes, this Markman was tattooed by Dr. Karl King, the leading radiology oncologist in the Houston area.  I will begin my radiation treatments this week and will have treatments Mon-Fri for 6 weeks at the Sugar Land Cancer Center.  Too bad we moved from there.  It is about a 25 minute commute so my son will take me in the mornings and wait for me (once they call you in, the radiation takes about 15 minutes.  I will be available for parties and weddings, etc. to bring a little inner light to your festivities!  I am sure I will glow in the dark!

Yesterday was an ordeal, meeting with this most thorough doctor who spent about 3 hours with me as well as another hour with me when I was in the hospital.  He now knows more about me than I know!  I trust him completely and I know I will make a full recovery.  Today will be another full afternoon, but what else do I have to do?

I hope everyone has power by now or has skipped town!  Can't blame anyone for running away.

Everyone stay well and safe and please keep in touch.

Love,
Paula29

Thank you for those kind words.  I refuse to be defeated.  The radiation is like having ammo in my pocket!  I have two great kids and wonderful friends, including my new ones on this forum, so there is good motivation.

I just picture myself in my red cape with STG emblazoned on the front while I stand with my fists on my hips, repelling all cancer cells and although it sounds crazy, I think it works!

All the best to you.

Wow no kidding you are a Super Tumor Girl!  I don't think I have seen anyone battle cancer with such a positive attitude (except maybe my own dad).  WTG!  Good luck!!

Thank you all for your support.  My original diagnosis was uterine/ovarian cancer so the tumor is a result of the uterine cancer.  We just returned from my second radiation treatment.  The treatments are not painful.  It's like having x-rays on steroids.  The treatment itself takes about 15 minutes.  I am marked like a target with a big cross on my tummy.

We met with the doctor again this morning.  He is amazing and so thorough.  He showed us my CT scan results with the tumor in red and it's bigger than I thought.  He said it has metastisized into the lymph nodes which are enlarged so he is expanding the treatment to 7 weeks, everyday except weekends.  I figured this will be over by Halloween.  There will be some side effects but after what I went through with the chemo side effects, which I am still experiencing four months later, this should be easy to handle.  The most difficult part is making the 25 minute drive to the cancer center!  My wonderful son is taking me and waiting and driving me home.  I stopped driving because I take so much medication...It's better that I am off the streets for now!  Most of the traffic lights in Houston are still out so it's a difficult trip.

Just know that I am Super Tumor Girl and I will kick this thing to the next century!

Hi Paula,
Since I had uterine cancer as well as ovarian, I, too, have been tattooed! I thought radiation was a cinch--especially compared to chemo.  My digestion was kinda bad for a few months, but that was it.  No fatigue.  No skin irritation. No nothing.

I hope your experience is the same!  Best of luck to you.

I am sorry I don't know your story but what is the radiation for if I my ask.  I didn't think it was used in ovarian but it is used in cervical and uteruse.  Please enlighten me.
