More complications but still hopeful

Hi everyone.  I haven't been on the boards for a while because I was trying to digest everything that has happened since my hysterectomy.

On Feb 5, one week after the operation, I went to the surgeon so he could remove the staples.  He also had the path report (which I didn't know at the time).

Well, the tumor is/was LMP/borderline, which is what he thought after the results came back during the operation.  They gyn oc had taken a lot of samples, and no tumor was seen anywhere (lymph nodes, uterus, cervis, fallopian tubes, left ovary, diaphrahm, sigmoid, etc.) EXCEPT some LMP cells showed up in the peritoneal washing.

I think this makes me stage 1C but the results were given to me by the surgeon and he wasn't sure.  I am waiting for an appointment with the gyn oc.

THEN, I went home, very confused to tell the truth, and my incision opened a few hours later.  So it was back to the hospital in an ambulance and I'm now dealing with an open wound and have visiting nurses every day (not fun).  I thought I was in a sequel to Alien LOL!  Has this happened to anyone else?

So, I'm trying to be hopeful, knowing that I will need some chemo treatments,

After a few days of being very depressed, I am feeling somewhat better today.  The weather is nice and I just watched Gigi on TV, and I'm doing laundry.  Whoo hoo!

Thanks for everyone's support.  Any info I can get at this point would be gratefully appreciated.

I had wound separation twice, both lasting 12 weeks.  I had to go to the Dr everyday for 9 weeks for cleaning and packing.  I went to the nurses' house on the weekends.  I was on antibiotics almost all 12 weeks the 2nd time because I had 3 infections the 1st time.
It was extremely frustrating but not as bad as it sounds.  You may ask your Dr about a wound vac.  I have not used one but I hear it helps the healing process.  It is so hard to go through something like this.  Try not to overdo stuff and be careful of infection risk.  Wash your hands a ton and stay away from germ prone areas.  I always carried germ hand gel with me.

Hope you feel better and get some good news soon!

Be well......

Hi- i've been off the forum too!-I got my staples out on 2/5- busted open on 2/6- hematoma/infection- ER- sta. sun. mon for packing- since i hab=ve medicare as primary they will not pay for someone to come to the house- expect a "family  member" to pack it down to the abd muscle- yeah right- so now i have found an immediate care that will do it daily- so - put it in perspective - i realize how difficult- im not supposed to get it wet or lift or bend- well - the dr says about 3 more weeks if all goes well-   i have not gotten my path reprt- i am going to the surgeon today for her to see the "wound"- I was hoping you were recovering well. I am so sorry for this MAJOR complication- and i know you will be strong and take one step at a time- the fighters are here for you - my computer is downnstairs and im now able to do them again as long as i dont bend twist or reach- HA- know you have to laugh a bit-   we are still here- could be worse!  But i know the open incision and path report has had to be a big shock to you-   Keep up - keeping UP! I have resorted to having a chair with arms next to my bed to push off/pull up etc- also just try picking things up with your toes- better than bending! Hope your mom is helping you. I check in with you later.

HI, I was Diagnosed 1c in Dec. of 07.  Contained to both ovaries with cancer cells in the peritoneal wash.  4 weeks after surgery is when I started 4 cycles of chemo with the first one being intraperitoneal.  I finished chemo in April of last year. I continue to get good reports at my onc with my ca125 holding steady at 8.  I wish you all the best, challenging times ahead, you made it thru surgery:) Please ask any and all questions, this site was an amazing, huge support for me. There are alot of knowledgeable ladies here who want to help and who really know what you are going thru and who really care.
I made it thru and so will you.

Hi, I hope you're having a better day today, it's been more than a bit of a rough time for you. Have you gotten the appointment with your oncologist? He'll be the one setting up the treatments with you. My GYN/ONCO Surgeon did my surgery, discussed the reports with me, and referred me to my Oncologist. Speaking of the report, be sure to get a copy of both the surgeon's surgery report, and the hospital's pathology report, I can't tell you how many times I read them over. I also brought a copy to my Internist. I hope you feel good, and good luck to you...... Jane

I am sorry that you have had to deal with the incision opening up.  I hope it heals quickly and you can get your treatment over with asap.  Congrats on getting some laundry done.  I must confess I have let mine stack up a bit. LOL.  Take care, Marie
