Need help with CA-125 results

2 1/2 years ago I was diagnosed with uterine cancer even though my doctor found "a nasty bunch of cells" on the ovary. I had a complete hysterectomy. Since that time all the tests (CT, CA-125, colonoscopy, endoscopy) have come back perfect. I had no chemo or radiation done. My last CA-125 was 15.2  about 2 months ago. I was shocked to find today that the CA-125 I had last week was 198. Is it possible for such a spike in the CA-125 even after 2 1/2 years of finding nothing? Is it possible that the lab made an error and it is 19.8? Any information you could give me would be appreciated. My doctor has scheduled another CT Scan for next week.

Thank you for responding. That is exactly what my doctor said. She still diagnosed me as "uterine cancer" but said she found a few "nasty cells" on my ovary which is why she did a complete hysterectomy. I am scheduled for another CT Scan on Monday. Unfortunately, my gyno/onco is on vacation for another week and a half. I was willing to pay myself for the hospital to do another CA-125 but they told me they can't do it without an RX from the MD. I just can't see after 2 1/2 years of extensive testing and every which test I had coming back absolutely perfect having such a sharp spike in CA-125. My last CA-125 just 2 months ago was 15. Have you heard of such a jump in such a short period of time? I have an appt. with the MD a week from Wednesday and I will have to wait until then to ask for another CA-125 test. Perhaps if the CT Scans comes back ok, she won't want one. I am so confused what with the strange spike, the MD being on vacation, the on-call doctor giving me different info. that I am going a bit insane. Again, thanks for your response.

Anything can throw off the numbers, even a tooth infection.  CA125 is not a diagnostic tool within itself.  What are "nasty" cells, with Ovarian Cancer, it is either cancer or it isn't, a benign cyst will not become cancerous.  When are they repeating the CA125?
