Ovarian Cancer - Stage 3C

Hi Everyone,

I've ben following this forum since my wife was diagnosed in Dec 2008. She had debulking surgery and turned out to be stage 3c. Shes 32 and i'm 29 so it came as a shock to both of us. Well she went through 6 rounds of carbo taxol but her CA -125 never went below 350. Then they moved her to doxil for 2 months and CA -125 went upto 458. After that she had Topotecan and AVastin for 3 months now and her CT has shown no change and the doctor is saying that the disease has progressed slightly. Unfortunately the doc is not giving us any other options now ... which I don't understand ... and he's talking about quality of life. Well i'm not ready to give up yet (not that I ever will) and am looking at other Hospitals like UCLA, City of Hope or MD anderson in Houston for clinical trials. Please ignore my shoddy typing, we just heard the bad news yesterday and I'm just trying to figure out what to do next.

Omigosh don't give up! You're both young and strong and there are so many options. I was diagnosed IIIc at age 34 in May of 2006 and I've been through the wringer but I'm still here and fighting. Get yourself on the rolls at a major center where people will back you up - I can't imagine a doctor giving up before the patient! Appalling.

I'm being treated at Dana-Farber in Boston and I know how lucky I am to live close by, but MOVE if you have to. It makes such a difference!

I was diagnosed 8/2006.  7 surgeries (having another 3/16) and 30 chemo treatments (including 18 IP) later I'm still here and working full time.  I know your in CA but explore Mount Sinai Gynocological Oncology Team in NY.  Outstanding surgeons and chemotherapy treatment.  Good luck!

hi, I am so sorry, my mom also have ovarian cancer she had surgery , 4 types of chemo, and tomorrow another surgery. anyway I am writing to tell you about George Ashkar, he is using "natural infection absorption method" to treat any type of cancer. he said that from 400 patient with ca that used his method only 8 pass away. my mom will try this method soon, I hope it will help. this method is very cheap, and easy. you will not need physician help. it is somehow painful but surgery and chemo also are. you can find it on google or you tube.

You both are so young! Be confident that you can find something that will help. How is your wife feeling overall? Any symptoms?

My loved one was diagnosed at 3C also (and has been kicking some cancer *** for the last 4 years!). We hit a wall with out oncologist who believed treatment should not be pursued. We called in to another oncologist for a second opinion. The second doc thought it was a long shot, but was convinced if the patient wants more treatment and is willing to try, then by all means, we'll keep trying to help with different treatments. And they have.

When we first felt that our original oncologist was not there to help us, we called MD Anderson, and Stanford, you know, all the big centers. But, it only took us looking within our hospital for another oncologist, and her telling them she was not ready to stop fighting, to get more treatment. I encourage you to look far, as well as near--maybe there is another oncologist at the hospital that will be willing to listen to your wife and figure out more treatments.

Thanks for the quick response ... i've alrdy called MD Anderson and UCLA and booked apointments with them. Who is your doctor at UCLA if you don't mind me asking ? Do you know of any clinical trials they are running for OVCA ? Shes currently being treated at the Chao Cancer center at UCI ... should i suggest Gemzar + Avastin to them ?
Unfortunately she has a horrible apetite ... and making her eat is very very difficult .... Any ideas ? I've alrdy told her she has to remain strong if we are going to pull ourselves out of this difficult situation.

Very sorry about your wife's situation.  I'm fully with you to have a second opinion. For OVCA, MD Anderson may be the way to go.  I have seen a lot patients go there and had a great out come on this forum.  If it is between UCLA and City of Hope, then I would go to UCLA.  I have been a patine since my dx OVCA 3C in Nov.06.  Very happy with them so far.
