Question About Vitamin C

Hi Ladies, Is there anyone who takes Vitamin C while taking chemo. My Gyn/Onc in Lehigh said just to take Centrum Silver and nothing else because in will lessen the effects of the chemo doing it's job. Then I have the Onc where I live tell me I can take anything that it will not interfere. Could anyone explain this? I'm so confused.I have been taking supplements all the while I started Doxil.I thought what do I have to lose.

I think you are what you are doing, working toward is similar to my goal.  I want to have a high quality of life while I fight this disease so I am doing as much as I can to support myself and my immune system to balance out the poison as it is put in my body.
I am attending a chant that is being sung for me and others suffering everywhere. I visualize, meditate and work on healing my whole self.  I think it sounds like you have your head in the right place.  I am determined to survive.

I didn't take anything except Centrum Silver while I had 8 treatment of carbo/taxol. When  I was on Doxil about my 3rd treatment I started to take AHCC mushrooms to build up my immune system. Oh and I also asked my Onc about taking Curcumin as I had read from MD Anderson that it helps fight the cancer cells. He said he heard good thing about it and I could take it. I sometimes wonder if they really know themselves.
I also take the AHCC mushrooms in powder form. I have been taking it for months. I also take coQ10 for my heart,selenium,200mg of Vitamin E, 1000mg of fish oil for heart, milk thistle for my liver along with the Centrum silver, caltrate with vitamin D and probiotic for my digestive system. I haven't taken Vitamin C as of yet. My Onc said that it was okay to take all that I mentioned. My Gyn/Onc in Lehigh would probably object to this. I'm going to Fox Chase in Philadelphia and also Sloan Kettering in NYC. I'm just waiting for my appointments. Also I was told eat anything you want, but after so much research , nutrition is very important. I’m getting so many different answers from both doctors. I'm really confused. I have to do what I think will fight the cancer in my body, I’m trying to get the best quality of life. I’m not giving up. If anyone has more to add , please let me know.
Hugs, Prayers and Love,
Terry

I am taking vitamin C orally and by IV.

Daily, I take 6-8 grams of buffered powdered vit c, zinc, vit D (followed by cal/mag).  I also take melatonin and DGL (to help with digestion.)  Two days a week I get 75 grams of vit C by infusion.

I also follow a low glycemic diet - no sugar, no alcohol, no potatoes, corn, white flour, high fructose corn syrup, fake sugars, etc. I eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies.
I will resume doxil infusions in a week.

The side effects are that I have more energy and I get thirsty during infusion.  My onc is very aware of what I am doing and works with the naturopath at the clinic where I go for vit C.  A lot of my oncs patients go there and they are seeing success with patients on the vit C infusions and doxil.  I hope to be one of the successes!!

I take Centrum Silver, Synthroid, Nexium, Calcium w/ Vit D, Baby Aspirin, Zocor.  I started taking Ferrous Sulfate (iron) and the chemo nurses told me to take it with Orange Juice for better absorption.  My Onc is aware of all of this.

You need to be careful of some supplements .. like I stopped taking Vitamin E.  A chemo nurse once told me not to eat licorice (so I don't).  Also, was told to stay away from green tea.  There are varying opinions on green tea .. but basically, was told to stay away from antioxidants.

I error on the side of caution and have did pretty well.  Could I have done better with more supplements, I'll never know.

(( Hugs )) and prayers back at ya ... Judy
