rash and itch after 1 chemo

A lady with mucinous cancer had a first treatment with taxol, gemzar and carboplatin A couple of days later she's experiencing a  rash and feels like her skin is on fire. She is using baby powder and lotion. Is this a normal reaction to these chemo drugs? I've advised her to call her oncologist asap in case it's an allergic reaction. She also got her flu shot the same day.

What do you think?
Thanks,
Jane

It's nice your friend has you looking into this for her, I see she has great support in you.  You advised her correctly, she needs to tell her oncologist office asap, calling their on call number if they are not in.  She should be checking her temperature as well.

I can tell you I have had this reaction to carboplatin.  If it is a chemo drug that is causing it, they may give her more pre medications and post medications to help or adjust her dosage.  If it were a strong reaction, they may even change a drug.  This is just my experience, because I have also had itching and hot flashes from pain meds.  I've had fevers and rash from some shots I was given to boost my white blood cell count too.  Having a list of all meds with their side effects is helpful, as is a doctor monitoring her side effects and making all adjustment he can to help make these treatments more bearable.

I have heard the flu shot can cause a fever, but never met anyone who had more of a reaction that that.  But your smart never to rule anything out and report all meds, vitamins, everything.  Wishing you both strength, Angie
