Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer

I am 53 years old, don't have periods any more and I started to bleed after sex and exercise and noticed a smell, also have a heavy bloated feeling and period type niggles in my lower tummy.   I went to doctor thinking I had infection,  was given a smear and sent for ultrasound, which came back normal but doctor referred me to gynea who is performing a biopsy next week..  I am now concerned he thinks I have cancer..  are my symptoms similar to ovarian  cancer symptoms

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I'm curious to know if you have any family history of ovarian or breast cancer because a small percentage of ovarian cancers are caused by gene mutations you inherit from your parents.
Signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer may include:

- Abdominal bloating or swelling
- Quickly feeling full when eating
- Weight loss
- Discomfort in the pelvis area
- Changes in bowel habits, such as constipation
- A frequent need to urinate
Btw have you got your results? Was it cancer or just a normal infection? I hope you're doing well.
Best wishes!

As the previous poster stated, post-menopausal bleeding is not always something serious like cancer. In fact, in the early post-meno years, it is oftentimes determined to be nothing more than sporadic ovarian activity. The ovaries produce health-promoting hormones our whole lives; they do not shut down at menopause.

Let us know what you find out.

If your pelvic ultrasound was unremarkable, it is unlikely that you have ovarian cancer. Usually ovarian cancer presents with complex cystic masses. Diagnostic considerations of postmenopausal bleeding include vaginal atrophy, endometrial atrophy, endometrial hyperplasia, endometrial cancer, endometrial polyp, and medications. Good luck with the biopsy.
