I went to see an ob thinking i was pregnant, being that my belly was growing bigger and bigger every week. They ruled out pregnancy and asked my what symptoms i was having. I said; swollen lower abdomen, frequent urination, constipation or random sudden diarrhea, dizziness, sick feeling, extremely tender stomach, sharp lower back pains, horrible pain in my liver area and my left kidney, lots of pressure on my pelvic area and left ovary, throbbing pain in my left thigh, really bad heartburn, i have been soooo incredibly tired as well.more than normal, and just generally not feeling well.my belly has been getting bigger and bigger and it hurts so bad to the touch. My symptoms have been escalating a lot the last month. The doctor asked if I have family history of ovca and I said yes, just about every woman including my mom had it at a young age. She said its very likely I have it. But its been a few weeks and still haven't had any testing done. Why wouldn't they act faster if its so likely? My pain is getting unbareble and I'm getting very very tired. Its getting very hard to breath also..keeo in mind I'm 19. I'm not scared of dying,  I just want to know. I don't understand why its taking so long to get tested and I'm wondering if this sounds like ovca. On my mothers side all the woman got the cancer after a miscarriage at a young age.. I had a miscarriage last september. I have a history of cysts but only when I had in the mirena iud. I had it taken out and they went away. Any thoughts?

Sorry to hear you are not getting better. I understand you have all reasons to worry about CA but if there is a bacterial concern, it should also be taken seriously. Bacterial infection in peritoneal is not a small thing. They will find out this quickly when they draw some fluid from your abdomen. Bacterial cause can be determined almost immediately. It is true that majority of OC cases are postmenopausal, for 60+ year olds. Most but not all. There are 2 other, less common types, that hit younger women and 1 that hits ONLY young women. Haven't they heard about your mother having OC in her 20? Good luck to you. Hopefully they can be persuaded to do a CT scan. Alla

I am sitting in the ER now...I'm hoping they'll do an ultrasound or SOMETHING to let me know. I saw my pcp today and I tested positive for bacterial vaginosis but when they told me symptoms of that, it didn't add up to everything I have going on..I feel like its much much worse than that. My pain in my stomach is so severe and its getting worse as I sit here. What should I ask them to do to see if I have ovca? I feel like they think I'm a hypocondriac because that cancer they believe is normally in 55 and up. They treat me like a joke!the tenderness in my stomach is creeping towards my ribs and getting worse.  My thighs feel almost numb from aching so bad. I can't see a gynocologists because my insurance needs a refferal to do so and my pcp doesn't seem to think that should be a priority.

I think GYN/Oncologist is a good idea. The ER is a gamble. When I went to the ER profusely vomiting from cancer (which I did not know I had) they refused to do any tests. Are you seeing OBGYN or a GP? A GP can order an ultrasound mine did.

Hey, I was in the same situation wrt belly growing big a year ago. but I did not have any symptoms like pain or tiredness, urination etc. some changes in bowel movement but nothing serious. And I had, by chance, my yearly gyn checkup - ultrasound and good pelvic area exam - done just 1.5 months before that.. All was normal. No family history of OC, mother and grandmother lived well to 90's. My PCP also was not in hurry to order CT-scan although I begged him. I read up the web and got a hunch (though far from medical field) that it may be ascites, with two possible causes: OC and bacterial infection. I did not think of OC at all bc of "clean" family history but bacterial infection in abdomen can become deadly very fast. So, I checked my temp and as soon as it got rising, I checked myself into ER, and they did CT- scan immediately. I did not have bacterial infection but I got OC. Curiously, my ovaries and all pelvic area were normal. But the ascites fluid  was full of cancer. In your situation, I would go to oncologyst-gynecological surgeon and beg for an  immediate appointment. They are specialized in gyn oncology, regular gyn's not. I wish you all the good luck. Alla

It seems like they are not taking this matter seriously. I'm thinking about going to the ER and just having them do an ultrasound so I don't have to wait anotger month to be seen. My symptoms are getting ridiculous. I don't see how a doctor could tell me its is very likely I have cancer and then not order and tests.

I would push to have an ultrasound and a CA125 as soon as possible or see another doctor. You might also want the BRCA test to see if you carry the mutation for cancer. I do not know if you have ovarian cancer not being a doctor. Sometimes a benign cyst can cause all the issues you describe.
