pain in my side

A couple of weeks ago my GYN found several fibroids and a 9 cm mass on my left ovary. now getting ready for complete hysterectomy. I am having a throbbing pain in my lower left side. It is like someone is poking a nail in my side. Anyone have an idea?

I got a copy of my TVUS and this is what is says:
the endometrium is 14 mm. Uterus is 11.2 x 7.4 x 8.9 cm. There is a 6.3 x 5.5cm hypoechoic region to the left extending from the left aspect of the uterus which has the appearanc of an exophytic fibroid, although it is exophytic, it does have a mass effect upon the endometrium.

Ovaries are difficult to visualize transvaginally and are better visualized transabdominally. No cysts or mass is demonstrated on the ovaries.

Impression:
1. 6.3 cm region extending from the uterus which has the appearance of a  large fibroid.
2. Endometrium is 14 mm.

Any input to explain this to me please????

Thank you again Lonely,
I try to keep good thoughts on my up coming surgery but it is hard to do when I am afraid of cancer. I watched my dad die from malinoma. And now my sister is fighting breast cancer. 3 of my dad's sisters have died from ovarian and cervical cancer. I know I shouldn't base myself on their cancers. I am going to insist with all intensity to have an oncologist there.

Hang in there, Cindy! I know it seems like forever. And the thoughts that run through your head...I found that I really didn't have support so that's one of the reasons I came here. I found that using the time to do things to get ready for the surgery recovery (you can't go anywhere or lift anything) was helpful. I did chores like crazy. It helped me feel like I was in control of some of the events of my life by preparing for the worst.(Don't have much help anyway. It really is just me) No one else but the ladies here understood that. Also, it is vital that you have an OB/gyn/oncologist. Really. Ask Marie about that. There are nightmare stories where ladies didn't have them and are in an uphill battle because of it. Hang tough and remember that most of these things turn out OK.:) Good thoughts and well wishes for Nov. 23rd!

Thank you Lonely, I am getting ready to set up my apt. for my surgery today. I am praying that the mass is nothing but also having it known that I want an oncoligist there just incase. I do thank all you wonderful ladies on here  for your caring hearts. My sister is moving here from Colorado next week and I am going to get her started on this website. She has breast cancer and had a double mastectomy( don't know if I spelled that right) about 3 years ago and had bad complications from it. Anyway I am rambling on. I will let you all know when my surgery is later on today. Again thank you so much for the response,
Cynthia

Hi Cindy. I too had a complex cyst on my left ovary at 6.5 cm and a fibroid. One of the reasons I insisted on the ultrasound was the pain I was having in my lower left side very similar to what you describe. It felt like a hot tennis ball near my hip bone somewhere in there. It hurt and occasionally burned, and was always worse after sitting. At 6.5 cm and with many symptoms lining up with OVCA my Doctor told me to prepare for the worst and surgery at the best. (i am 43, btw). He packed me up and shipped me off to a ob/gyn/oncologist surgeon who wanted to wait and do a follow up ultrasound. What eventually became a 2 month wait (they don't put this kind of stuff on Fear Factor. They should) was nerve wracking. I made the best of my time (or tried to) lost 30 pounds and changed my diet. Low and behold 2 months later it was gone. Completely.  About 3 weeks before the follow up I thought maybe it was because it wasn't hurting on the left side any more. So yeah, you can feel those things. And they can hurt like crazy. I'm sorry to read you are going through all of this too. Hang in there and keep typing. The ladies on this site are AMAZING. And tough as nails:) They are great folks to consult and have on your side.
