side effects

I am ovarian cancer stage 4.  I have had 1 treatment of "AVASTIN" and getting ready to start my second treatment tomorrow. Can anyone else on the treatment tell my of any side effect they have had from this, and did you have success in reducing your CA125.

thank you for your response, This is what I am seeking other people who are taking the same chemo mixture and what reactions they are having, (just to know that its not just me) had my second treatment on Friday the 11th. , was fine all day yesterday and feeling well this morning. So perhaps my being very sick the first time was a first time reaction.  My CA125 took a big drop from 635 to 355.  After the first treatment I was in bed for 3 days with nausea and just weakness.  I am a lot better this time.  I was Diognosed with ovarian cancer on April 4th (day of my surgery) 2004, said it was stage 4.,I was always afraid to ask what stage 4 meant.  But I have been on differnt chemos, ever since.  How long can you stay on Avastin i wonder that. And I always hold out hopes of being cured ( which is just a dream im sure) I am 65, and not ready to give up this wonderful blessing of life yet, so I will keep fighting with all that I have to keep it. Just speaking with someone that goes thru the same thing as I has been very encouraging for me.   May God be with you my dear, keep your faith and he will be there for you.           Mary

I am currently on avastin/abraxane. When my Ca was checked after the first 2 rounds it had dropped in half. I was tolerating the avastin fine, just a litle tired for a couple of days afterwards. (the abraxane did cause hair loss) But then I developed a blood pressure issue. Avastin does cause a raise in BP but in some cases like mine, it caused a dramatic raise. I had to skip treatments and start on BP meds until we could get it leveled out. Thankfully it has wo9rked and my BP is back to normal and I am able to get started back on my original schedule with the Avastin. I will continue to stay on the BP meds so there will be no more problems. Other than that, I have had no other side effects. Please try not to worry a great deal because as with any chemo drug, it does not effect each person in the same way. You will probably do just fine.
I too am curious as to what other drug you will be recieveing as I have not heard of it being given alone either.
I wish you the best of luck.

Congrats on teh great CT scan results. Just thought I'd mention that one thing I've read about Avastin is that it seems to have an especially good effect on ovarian cancer compared to other cancers that it has been used for. There is some indication that Avastin can be helpful all by itself for ovarian cancer even though they're looking into if it might be even more effective when combined with other drugs.

Sorry I didn't respond to this sooner...just been away from the computer quite a bit lately. I am on Avastin and Cytoxan. I will be re-starting the Avastin next week after a little break and will be getting 10mg/kilogram of weight every three weeks, along with my daily Cytoxan pill, 50mg. I have had no real side effects. I feel pretty tired for a couple days after treatment and my blood pressure jumps a little, but for the most part, I feel quite well. My CA125 is not a good marker for me, so they go by my CT scan results. My last scan showed that the Avastin has shrunk my tumors, almost by half, which is incredible news...certainly not what we were all expecting! I wish you luck on your up coming treatments...what other drug are they giving you with the Avastin? I've never heard of them giving it alone...

I just googled Avastin side effects are there are many sites that have lots of info on there. Also, you could google the manufacturer or ask your oncology center for some fact sheets.... Just a thought.

I have no experience with Avastin, so I can't respond.  I wish you the best of luck in your treatment.  Regarding your recent post where you feel ignored, do you still want this kind of response where people don't know anything about your question?
