9 month old with ovarian cyst

We saw the surgeon on the 18th and he wants to remove the cyst on my daughter's right ovary.  He said that since we have viewed it several times and it isn't showing signs of going away on its own he wants it taken out.  He never mentioned any other lab testing but he did say that they would be doing pathology on the cyst once it is removed to see what caused it and what type it was.  Does this seem radical to anyone?  Should we be getting a second opinion?  He said that if she was menstruating then he may do the wait and see approach because it could be a functioning cyst, but because of her age he says she was born with it and he doesn't want to chance it getting bigger, and possibly causing the ovary to twist.  Also, if anyone has had this surgery to remove an ovarian cyst laproscopically what was it like?  I know they say children recover more quickly and he said she should be walking around in a couple of days.  Please, any info would be greatly appreciated!

Her doctor is a pediatric surgeon.  He said he has seen this before and usually they can just remove the cyst without harming the ovary.  Although he did say that sometimes when they get in there that there is no ovary at all, just cyst.  Since she is so young they can't see the ovary at all in any of the imaging she has had.  So hopefully this cyst is just covering the ovary and they can remove it with no problem.
I will keep you all posted.  Thank you for your prayers and concern.

I would definetly want my daughters cyst removed if it was not resolving on its own. And because your daughter is a baby, are there alternatives??
I have a daughter who is 15 years old, on her first gyn exam at 13 they found a cyst, but even at her age I was hesitant about the reccommended Yaz Birth Control the Dr started her on. But with my Family history, I agreed to start the Pills, and they have helped. But if she was 9 months and I was faced with the decision, I would definetly want anything that did not belong - removed.
Best of Health to your Precious Angel.

I have had several laparoscopies and the recoveries(for me) were no big deal. There were only 3-4 very small incisions, no staples or stiches on the outside.  They call it bandaid surgery.  The good thing is that your baby won't remember any of it!!!!!  If she is already walking at 9months, than she is one tough cookie!!!!   The roller coaster of emotions you must be experiencing is probably very stressful and frustrating.  I am praying for your little cutie!  If you feel like you need a 2nd opinion, get one!

What kind of Dr is doing her surgery? Gyn? Gyn/Onc?
