Hi Rayann, I was curious what your doctor said today about your cyst. I had my ultrasound yesterday and have a 4cm by 2.5cm complex cyst on my right ovary. My doctor won't be in until next week.
Dr. Kaur, I'm hoping you are still following this forum,
I have been dealing with pain down there on and off for years. For the last 6 + months I have been in pain all the time. I am gaining weight really fast with no change to diet. I am really anemic even though I take iron. I am really emotional too like I was in my early pregnancy. All my hormones by blood test have been great. It is driving me crazy. My period have also been off. I will bleed 3 times a month and then not have a period for 1 to 2 months. I am very sensitive to hormones and have never been able to handle birth control pills. I have a hormone free IUD now. What is usually done about Complex cysts and can I prevent them in the future?
Hello,
A complex ovarian cyst is less common than simple ovarian cyst. At such a young age it can be dermoid cyst which is a type of complex ovarian cyst and is the most common type and develops during the childbearing age. Complex ovarian cysts are generally benign. The risk of malignancy is generally higher among postmenopausal women.
Most ovarian cysts disappear in 8 to 12 weeks. If they persist then before going in for surgery we can try the birth control pills also.
It is less likely for a small ovarian cyst to cause pain. It can cause pain if it becomes large, Bleeds, breaks open, interferes with the blood supply to the ovary, is bumped during sexual intercourse or is twisted or causes twisting (torsion) of the Fallopian tube.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
