Cyst Removal

I was diagnosed with cysts one at around 17.5 cm and another at 5cm. This was an incidental finding following an ultrsound on my Kidneys. I was initally told the smaller of the two cysts had the appearance of being concerning and the ultrasound technician refered the results back to the GP within 48 hours, I was then told that I would be refered and that I would be seen within 2 weeks but that didnt happen. In fact it took 10 weeks. At the appointment the consultant was horrified that I had been left and ordered tumour markers, mri and TVU immediately and these were done within days. So this week I was scheduled to return but the consultants sec rings and tells me my case is being reviewed by a special panel and there is no point attending until this is completed, the surgeon rings me the next day to tell me that theu do not suspect cancer but as  the cysts need to be removed and I will need to consent up to the possible removal of the ovary. They also said that it was difficult for them to tell if it was a cyst or an enlarged tube and from where it was arising whether it was the right or left ovary after MRIt surely they would know this?
Anyway I didnt get much time with the consultant on the phone so I had to call  the secretary back later who told me I would be scheduled for a LAPAROSCOPY not Laparotomy, i find this odd given the size of the growth? Does anyone know if large cysts like this can be removed via laparoscopy?

Thanks I hope your recovery is going well. It does help me to know that other people have had the same experience and had a Laparoscopy. Out of interest what was the wait time between finding and removal for you, I was offered surgery in July but had opted to defer to September because I cant be off work until then....:(

I asked the same thing with mine and found that they can bag it, remove the fluid, and then remove the remaining cyst.  THe belly button incision is alittle larger than the normal 1-2 inches, but still small and recovery is so much easier.  Sounds like you have a team on your side.  Good luck, keep us posted.

mine was over 30 cm last measurement and that was four weeks before surgery.  It was just under my belly button.  The day of surgery last week, it was about 4 inches above my belly button.

I had a lap to remove mine. Mri couldn't show them where it was coming from.  They thougt right but it was the left.

I am one week post op.  Its doable with a lap and yours is way smaller then mine was so you should be fine.
