Day 4 post-op ovary & tube removal

Hi, On Tuesday I have my Right ovary and tube removed along with a plum sized cyst (all on right side). So ending day 4 I am still very sore, I have an incision on my left side and a larger one above my hair line, along with the whole belly button thing.
I am not sleeping well, my left side hurts and just feels like there is something in there (don't know if I am just swallon under the skin or what)
I was sapose to return to work this comming Sunday and there is no way I can do that. I work retail so standing that long is just not an option.
I'm still a little bloated (finally had a bm this morning) so that seemed to help.Prune juice worked like a charm.

I am just curious as to why I would be having pain on my left side, though my right stuff was removed. and how long this is going to last.

Hi there.  I had just a laparotomy (C-incision, like bikini line) to remove my tubes and my left ovary.  I am 5 days post op and it's normal that you are swollen and that there is pain.  Try to rest as most as possible, drink plenty of water and try to walk a little.  Let your body recover from the surgery and it takes 2 to 4 weeks to recover.  I had a lap 2 years ago to remove and endometrioma and adhesions from endometriosis, so I learned how to deal with my body.  Now it seems much easier and although I am still sore and with pain, I can move around and I am feeling better every day.  So, have patience and rest plenty so you heal well and you recover your energy, and be able to work.

Best wishes,

Neta

ty for your responses

...I've been sleeping in a chair and tried the other night in my bed. This morning when I got up I was bleeding a little (more like spotting), not sure if it's my period because I was due to get it around this time or if it's from the surgery.

All in all I feel better, but I find I get winded real easy and my darn hips and legs hurt (I'm sure from sitting around so much). and I am getting minor headaches.

As far as work, my next scheduled day now is wed, for a 3 hr. shift, but I have a 40 min. drive to work. Debating on just telling them I cant come back yet and for the following week to minimize my hours to start out with.

It takes 2-4 weeks to recover from the kind of surgery that you had.  It is normal to have the pain all over because they blow you up with air during surgery so that they can see your organs better.  Your whole abdomen is swollen so therefore you will be sore all over.  Give yourself plenty of time to heal.  Are you taking the pain pills that your doctor gave you?  Have you tried sleeping in a recliner where you do not have to lay flat, but can lie back a bit?  I slept in a chair some after my surgeries. Your body went through a trauma and needs time to get back on track.  Maybe you could go back to work for a few hours to start out with.  Make sure that you are walking (helps get rid of the gas and helps get some of your strength back), drinking plenty of water and resting when your body tells you to.  Hope you get feeling better soon.

It takes a minimum of 2 weeks to recover from that type of surgery for most people to return to work (but healing still takes even longer internally). It sounds like you are trying to cut that in half.  It is not enough time. Are you able to stay home for another week?  The post op pains sound normal enough to me. It will not just hurt on the right side. The after effects tend to involve a large portion of the abdominal area. It will get better, but you need to rest and give it time to heal.  I had bigger surgery and had to sleep flat on my back for a month to avoid pain. I hope you start to feel better in the days to come.
