Cystic structure in the left ovary

Hello, in advance thank you for the responses. If anyone had a similar problem, I would like to share ideas.

Two weeks ago I started to have a stinging like pain in my left ovary. At the same time I had yellowish discharge. I went to GYN 3 days after, and she said that in the scan she saw a "cystic structure". She said it could be due to ovulation since it was around 12th day of my cycle. Also I did a test, it came out I have an infection. I am now using antibiotics. Also around my 15th day, I had middle cycle pains which were stronger then ever and I felt I ovulated. Now my period is due to 5 days at most. But still I get that dull pain in my left ovary. Not stinging not sharp but a pain. I am worried about it too much.I will be going to GYN again after my period.

I am 29, no kids yet. I used birth control pills for 7 years in order to regulate my cycle (from 18-25). Also around 2-3 years before I had poly-cystic over syndrome. But never had symptoms like now. Do you think this can be anything related to ovary cancer? I am too concerned. Or you think it seems like any regular ovarian cyst.

Thanks again.

Hello again, doctor could not decide whether it is beginning of a period or just irregular bleeding. She saw one of my ovaries as swollen on the scan. She said we should wait to see whether bleeding will stop or not. and yes it has lasted just one day and stopped. I will go to doctor again. Now I am getting too much worried....

This could be from having had the cyst or the fact that you did not have regular periods before unless you were on birth control pills. If you see your doctor, let us know what she says.

Hello again, another update. Now a period-like bleeding started just too early for my cycle. No pain just bleeding- not heavy but between regular to light.  I will go to doctor today, I am concerned..

It could be related to having had the cyst since that can affect hormones hence can cause some irregular bleeding / spotting. Dark brown discharge is just old blood.

Hello again,
Today I started to have a thick dark brown vaginal discharge. I am on my 14th day of cycle. And I have no other symptoms. Any idea why this happens now?

I am glad to hear the cyst went away. The irritation from the cyst itself or leaking fluid can cause some lingering pain or discomfort. So I would not worry too much at this point.

Today I went to GYN again, right after my period ended. She did a scan and she said that she cannot see anything, everything is normal, that "cystic structure" is not there anymore. Also she added, for now there is no need for further investigation since there is nothing shown on the scan.

I am relieved now, however, still that little stinging pain comes and goes on my left side. Maybe if it persists, I may go to an internal diseases specialist to check other reasons.

Thank you for your response. I will update after GYN appointment next week. Hopefully, as you said, it is just a regular cyst. Have a nice day !

Welcome to the community. Yes, you are right, absent a family history of ovarian cancer, your risk would be extremely low. In the U.S. the average woman's lifetime risk is less than 2% (1.3% to be exact).

This is likely just an ovarian cyst and could be an indication of the Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome cysts returning since it sounds like you are no longer on birth control. Also, after cysts resolve or rupture, they can leave some lingering pain or discomfort for weeks.

Hoping you feel better soon!

Also, forgot to mention. Neither in my mother's side nor in my father's side I have no history of any type of cancer in my family, thanks god. I think this also plays an important role in ovarian cancer.
