Is this a functional cysts?

I was having intermittent discomfort (ache/gnaw) in the middle section of my right side along with feeling nausea for the last two months. Seemed to be more frequent and lasting longer.  My doctor ordered an abdominal CT scan with contrast.  The report indicated cystic lesions seen in bilateral ovaries.  My doctor then ordered an Ultrasound Pelvic with transabdominal/transvaginal. The results showed 3 right ovarian cysts with the largest measuring 4.6x2.2x3.0cm. the report also noted a cystic focus inferior to the left ovary measuring 4.6x3.4x4.4cm. There is no fluid noted.  I had a partial hysterectomy over 6 years ago, so no periods.  My copy of the ultrasound report does not specifically indicate the type of cyst. In the CT report the radiologist said the "cystic lesions in bilateral ovaries likely due to functional cysts if the patient is still premenopausal."  Also the reason for the exam is noted as lesion of ovary.  Are the terms cysts, tumors and lesions used interchangeably? I have been referred to an ob/gyn.  Also I looked over my previous tests from an unrelated test noted bilateral ovarian cysts and acute cystitis with hematuria.  Thoughts? I like to advocate for my health. Should I be concerned?

The previous test that showed "cystitis with hematuria" sounds like you had a bladder or urinary tract infection with blood in your urine.

They do seem to use the terms cysts, tumors, lesions interchangeably because imaging isn't exact. These may very well just be simple cysts or other types of cysts which will resolve on their own. Were you told to come back in a month or so for a recheck? It seems hysterectomy can impair ovarian function and possibly increase the likelihood of cysts but they're still likely nothing serious. Do you by any chance have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)?

Thanks for your thoughts.  They have never diagnosed me with PCOS.  And this is the first time I've had multiple cysts on one ovary.  One cyst has been there for a year and was mentioned as "unchanged".  Another seemed to appear larger.  I have an appointment with an OB/GYN to discuss treatment. I agree this is probably a simple cyst, I just wish that the radiologist had described it as such in the Ultrasound report the way the other radiologist did in the report from the CT scan.  Thanks again.

p.s. I'm 50 with children.  *The report of the cystitis /hematuria was over a year ago.  Thanks.
