I am 25 yrs old and 13weeks pregnancy with my first baby.

Impression: 8 weeks pregnant and EDD of about jan 21, 2011. The right ovary is unenlarged measuring 33x31x30 mm with a corpus luteum. There is a 97x92x84mm complex pelvic mass situated superior to the uterus and eccentric to the right is described as dermoid cyst (mature cystuc teratoma)

2nd ultrasound june 14, 2010
Impression: 7weeks and 5 days pregnant. Right ovarian cyst as described probably a corpus luteum cyst and dermoid cyst 5.34x4.86cm
left ovarian cyst probable a follicle cyst. 8.51x7.19cm

i am confused with the result of my 2 ultrasounds..next month im having my operation..is it safe? any suggestions..Thank you!

So sorry to hear you have to face surgery while pregnant.  They do seem a bit confused on your u/s.   I am guessing, the rapid changes are due to the hormones from your pregnancy.  Have you asked your doctor about it?    The right cyst seems to have grown a couple of cm and now looks complex versus looking simple on the first scan.  The left side is measured slightly less (could be fr/ a difference in how tech measured), but it is large for a follicle cyst.  Also, since it was classified as a dermoid before...it must have looked complex on the prior u/s.

Here's the thing...it is probably benign, but any large, complex mass has a chance of being malignant...and you have two.    Any time there is a changing cyst that is large and complex, you owe it to yourself to have a consult with a gynecologic oncologist.  Are you already seeing one?  If not, then ask your gyn to refer you to one before you have any surgery.

The gyn/onc can be there to step in if it looks malignant during surgery and you will have a much better overall prognosis.  I don't mean to scare you and it really stinks that you have to face this while pregnant.  But, it is best to play it safe.   Gyn/oncs have seen so many more unusual cases than a regular gyn.  Odds are with you that is benign.  I think your hormones are causing the changes.  But, even benign cysts can be life threatening to you and the baby if they rupture.

My gyn's nurse had surgery to remove a teratoma when she was in her third trimester and it was benign.  She and baby were fine.  It was a very scary situation because of the waiting and wondering.  I'll be praying for you.  Keep us posted!
