What is a heterogeneous cyst on the ovary?

I had a repeat scan yesterday that shows that a cyst on my ovary has grown in the past month and now looks more heterogeneous/solid. Should I be concerned? What is a heterogeneous cyst? Why has it grown/looks more solid now?

I'm sorry it is causing so much pain. :( I hope you get resolution soon...that it goes away or is surgically removed and all goes well. Keep us posted.

The cyst is under 5cm so currently under the threshold of NICE guidelines for the removal of it. However they are considering removing it more due to the fact that I have had multiple hospital admissions from the pain from it and still dosed up on painkillers hence the repeat scans etc.

I am currently having repeat scans and CA 125 blood tests to ensure that any abnormalities are picked up.

I'm sorry to hear about your difficult experience, I hope things are better for you now!

Many thanks for your help!

Neither heterogeneous nor solid is a given for malignancy. Cysts can be benign (non-cancerous) and have these traits. How big is the cyst? Is your doctor just monitoring it for now with periodic ultrasounds?

I developed a 9.5cm complex cyst 10 years ago at age 49. Even though the frozen section showed it was benign, my gynecologist over-treated me. Instead of removing just the cyst allowing me to keep all my female organs and their LIFE LONG functions, he removed both ovaries, uterus, and tubes which has caused many more problems than I ever could have imagined, all of which are documented in medical literature as fall-out from the loss of these organs. Yet he divulged none of them prior to telling me he needed to do surgery and quickly.

Best of luck to you in getting proper treatment whether it be watchful waiting or cyst removal (cystectomy) if the cyst is benign.
