Cysts and Thyroid Problems

I know we've been over this many times before and I'm sorry if this question has already been asked. A lot of you have gone hypro or had other thyroid problems when dealing with cysts.

I still have a 10 cm cyst that I'm waiting on getting out...still have another appt with gyn onc on the 12th, then hopefully he'll schedule me a date for surgery.

Anyway, I went hypo and got a small goiter and now I'm on Levothyroxin. My family doc still of course doesn't think the two conditions are related but after talking to a few of you, I think they are.

Just curious...how many of you who had thyroid problems while dealing with the cysts have had the cysts removed and are still dealing with the thyroid problems? And how many of you had your thyroid levels even out after the cysts were removed? For those of you who had the thyroid balance out after surgery...are you still having to stay on medication for the thyroid or are you completely back to normal?

I guess I'm just trying to figure out if it's possible that the thyroid problem will even itself out once my big cyst is gone or if I'll more than likely be dealing with this problem for the rest of my life now.

Thanks so much for your help!...I don't know why I'm more concerned about the thyroid than the cyst, but it's been on my mind like crazy lately...maybe I'm reading too many thyroid horror stories online now.

I was born without a thyroid gland ( congenital hypothyroidism)  and at age 19 this will be the third time I have a dermoid cyst on my ovaries (when I was 2 and a half and also at age 10) I wanna know the connection between the two conditions, I'm am scared to death as now the decision to remove the ovary is lurking, when I was 10 they removed a quater of the left ovary and now the right ovary is at stake, I'm terrified that I will never have a baby, the doctor suggested getting pregnant now and having the removal surgery after the birth AND OFCOURSE the problem being I'm old 19 and although I love my 21 boyfriend with everything I have we have only been together for two years in may and even though we live together and he is on a steady wage there is no logically or ethically possible way for us to bring a child into this world, I am terrified as I feel like a failure as a young woman with the threat of being unable to do what women do best and getting pregnant.

Surprisingly enough, I just got diagnosed with both hypothyroidism (With Anti tpo >1300 and TSH 12-13, normal T3 and T4 levels) and ovarian cyst (left side) while getting screened post my 2nd miscarriage in 6th week (1st suspected miscarriage was at 5 weeks, nt confirmed thru medical tests but clinical symptoms)....Before this miscarriage, everything was alright and post this the USG showed left ovarian cyst and hypo.......I 'm 39 and there is no family history of thyroid.......I have no symptom of hypothyroidism otherwise..........though I did feel headache, nausea, vertigo.......I believe it more like corpus luteum cyst appears when the miscarriage happens before 11 weeks /placenta formation........Im still confused whether this attacked immune system and caused increased anti TPO or increased Anti TPO n high TSH caused miscarriage and left over corpus cyst.......post miscarriage it was 6.3 cm (4 months back) and in recent TVS it appeared to be 5.5 cm ....nt sure if it wud dissolve at its own or need some medical/ surgical intervention.......thanks all fr sharing their own experiences too........Looking forward to the guidance on same / if anyone experienced the similar issues

i'm 45 yr had hysterectomy rt salping oopherectomy my left ovary growing cyst, ca125 0-35 normal mine was 5 and 7 , i have multinodular thyroid on synthroid to shrink goitors 37.5 mcg  , endocrinologist,  also my vit d vit b 12 were low!  now growing fatty painful beady things  press on nerves taking L carnitin an amino acid lots to consider.

Wow. This is amazing. There is obviously sone relation. I too have ovarian cysts and hav now just been diagnosed with 8 cysts on my thyroid. Very interesting. I will be seeing a specialist as what to do about my diagnoses. Thankyou so much for posting your experiences.

I am 31 and have had severe lower back pain for the past year. I've been to every doc in the area and had every test done (ultra sounds, x-rays, physical therapy, massages, etc)...all tests came back normal and the therapies did nothing to help.

I finally went to a homeopathic chiropractor who said it was my ovaries that were "clogged" and that 10 years of being on the pill may have somthing to do with it. He prescribed Ovex and it has gotten better.

In addition to this....I had a benign cyst removed from my thyroid when I was 2. My thyroid always tests a normal TSH but is huge, going half way up my throat area. I have to have an ultrasound every year to check on it because I have odd nodules and cysts that pop up all the time. They can become quite painful and it hurts to swallow but they usually subside after a time. However, after being on the Ovex, they have not been a problem!

My chiro said to take 3 three times a day and if symptoms get worse than normal, cut back until the pain is normal. Please consult your own doctor or pharmasict and not go soley off my advice for your own protection....I'm not a doctor!

I seen your posted question and was shocked...In August of 2008, I had surgery to remove the left half of my thyroid due to a  4cm benign nodule that has several smaller nodules behind it.  I am 47 and I have already gone through menapause at 45.  I went to my gyno for some pressure I was feeling and a sonogram showed I now have a 4cm complex cyst on my right ovary.  I did have the C125 test and it back extreamly low,  I think it was under 10 and now my doctor gave me the option to watch it or remove it.  Since I had a routine songram in January 2008 and the cyst was barely visable on my ovary and it has grown to 4cm  and I am post menapause, I am having it and possibly my right ovary removed on 1/28/09.  Two surgeries in under 6 months.  I wonder if one does have something to do with the other???

I had my throid checked out.  I had this lump sensation in my throat that wouldn't go away.  At the same time a cyst was found on my right ovary.  The only thing that is wrong with my throid is there is a nodule on it.  I am to get it rechecked in 4 months.

I have the exact same , I’m due to get a cyst out of my thyroid and then suddenly I had an emergency operation to have a cyst on my ovary removed , which caused my ovary to twist on itself

I was diagnosed hypothyroid about 10 years ago and have been on the hormone replacement since then.  When my cysts occurred my levels went crazy and after surgery returned to normal - with normal being with the same level of drug I needed before cysts.  So, one doesn't necessarily cause the other but there is definitely a propensity for women with thyroid conditions to have cysts and I believe less likely the other way around.
