chocolate cyst

I went to my gynocologist telling him that exactly a week after my periods I was getting bleeding again this was going on for couple of months. He sent me to do an ultra sound which they discovered I had a homogenous echogenic area of 5.51x3.66cm chocolate cyst or haemorrhagic cyst in the right adnexa and the left ovary shows an echoless area of 1.26x1.51cm consistant with follicular cyst. Upon all this I have a 1.01x1.42 intra mural fibroid this test was done in may my doctor gave me nothing he said change my eating habit and stop drink come back after there cycle of my period which I did. The cyst on my left side is gone and the one on my right shrink to 5.43x3.54cm. The fibroid grew to 1.57x1.52cm. I was given to take antibiotics for a week in case the cyst was infected and 2 months of vitamin c I am to go back in October for a next test. Can someone please help me should I get the cyst remove shoud I take anthing else to help. My doctor told me the size of the fibroid was nothing to worry about is he telling me the truth

Yes, your doctor is right about the fibroid.  It is small and should be fine without any treatment.   Your cyst is on the borderline of where doctors like to remove them.  It sounds like your cyst is complex if it looks like it could be a chocolate cyst (endometrioma).   It did go down slightly in size, but very minimally.  Did you ask your doctor if the size difference could be due to differences in the way the ultrasound tech measured it?  The good thing is that it doesn't seem to have grown.

What did your doctor recommend?   Have you had a MRI or CT?  These tests are better at determining the content of a cyst and looking at the entire pelvis to determine if there are other areas of concern.  The first thing you need to do is to confirm with your doctor if your mass is in fact complex.   If it is, then you should have a consult with a gynecologic oncologist before you have surgery.  It is highly unlikely that your cyst is malignant.  But, any complex mass over 5cm has a greater chance of being malignant than other types of cysts.  So, it is best to not take chances.  A gyn/onc has more training and experience in dealing with malignant masses, so this is a must if yours has worrisome signs.    Usually, a gyn/onc will be available to step in during your surgery if frozen section finds a malignancy.   Odds are with you that this is benign...so try not to worry!

Hopefully, you can request a MRI if you haven't had any tests other than ultrasound.  Keep us posted on how you are doing!

I have a 5cm hemorrhagic cyst on my rt ovary and a smaller one on my left.  Do you have any symptoms with yours besides the break through bleeding?  My gyno says break thru bleeding doesn't happen with cysts that they break inside the abdominal cavity and not thru the uterus.  I happen to think he doesn't know what he is talking about because that was one of my first symptoms.  October seems a long time to wait for the next test.  I was never offered any antibotics, at least he gave that a try!!!
