complex cyst

I am 35 years old. I was just diagnose with large complex solid cyst with some fluid. It measure 5.5x4x4.5 cm. Last year I had cyst removed also but was different than what I have now. I'm scarred. I hear that it can be mix message and it can be either way. With the size of this cyst can it be shrunk with medication or should surgery be opted? My symptoms are bloating, missed period, lower back pain, left side pain, left groin pain, loss of appitete, weight loss, nausea and vomiting when in extreme pain. There is no chance of pregnancy. Should I seek specialist?

Update: My gyn diagnose me and refer me back to my specialist who did the surgery last year. This will be my fourth time that this happen. All my other cyst were endometrioma but this one is different now. Just waiting for them to call me to schedule surgery. I'm hoping that they just remove the ovary also so I don't have to keep repeating surgeries. I hope that they schedule surgery soon before I return to school in Sept. I can handle cramps or pelvic pain but when it comes to back pains its the worst feeling ever.

I am with Wendy...great advice.    Any complex mass over 5cm must be removed.  You definitely need to ask for a referral to a gynecologic oncologist.  Most doctors do this on their own.  However, some don't.  A gyn/onc will be able to tell you his opinion about your test results.  He will examine you.  Usually, a gyn/onc will assist your gyn during surgery or sometimes do the surgery on their own.

Most complex masses do turn out to be benign. But, it is better to play it safe and get the best care possible.   I hope all turns out to be benign.  Hang in there!

Hi there,

I am so sorry you are going through this again.  Did your regular GYN diagnose this new cyst?  If not, did the doctor you saw not recommend you seeing a GYN Oncologist?  If not, I would definitely call one.

I have a 10cm mass on my left ovary.  I have been having left lower back and thigh pain for a while.  I just starting having left groin pain during my period in May and then again in July.  I had a CT scan and that is what showed the mass.  My doctor ordered blood work.  My CA-125 came back with a level of 158 so he wanted me to see a oncologist to rule out cancer and see which way to remove this thing inside of me.  I go on Tuesday for my consultation.

Please don't be scared.  The good thing is that you are on top of things and getting this checked out now.  I know it's tough not knowing - I'm going through this too right now.  You have to believe that God will heal you.  He does not want us sick.  Second opinions are not a bad thing either.

Let us know what you find out.....stay positive! :o)
