scared

im 16 and not sexually active. back in november 07 i sarted having back and hip pain. my doctor sent me to get an xray and to a orthopedic. the x-ray showed that i had a curve in my spine and he and the orthopedic said that it was probly just a muscle causing the pain and recommended physical therapy 3xs a week. after a while it got to the point where i couldnt do what i was supposed to there and the pain would become so intense at times that i would start crying. i cant sit or stand too long and because of that i had to quit school and get my ged. my doctor sent many to get numerous blood test done and everything came back normal. last month he sent me to get a ultrasound of kidneys and that came back normal. not long after that the ortho sent me to get a mri to check for slipped disks and the only thing that showed up was a 6.5 cm cyst on my ovary. he sent me to a gynecologist and i met with the physicians assistant and she said that it was a dermoid cyst and because of the size and the amount of pain i have been in i would need surgey and that if the pain got worse go to the er. last weekend i was hurting really bad so i went to the er and was there all night!!!! they said that they couldnt find the cyst but they found a smaller one and that the pain was from the cyst going away. i followed up with the gyne and she suggested laparscopic surgery to fix anything that could be wrong. my surgery is scheduled for wed (2 days from now) and im starting to get the "what if" nerves. any advice? i would really appreciate it thanks in advance

You are going to be fine.  The surgery will help them know for sure what is going on and they will do their best to fix the problem.  I know surgery is a scary thing, I was really nervous about my last one and I am 41 and have had several surgeries.  I remember when I was 18 I was doubled over on the floor with a cyst, so I know I have had this problem for years.  You are not alone and the doctors will take care of you.

It sounds like you are really in good hands. Cysts are very common in young women. At least you're not having to wait forever like some have.. Try not to worry--Wed. only 2 days away.. Keep us posted,

Sandy

Hey.  I am so sorry that you are having these problems and that you have to deal with them at such a young age.  I think you should follow the advice of your docs.  At least they have been checking many things and paying close attention to your symptoms.  Please keep us posted on your situation.  I know it is scary but you are young and strong and you will be fine!
