Welcome to the community. Your doctor should tell you how long you need to take off work. You will likely need to plan on being off for at least two weeks.

Does is take that long to recover when you have to have a hemorrhagic cyst removed? I am scheduled to have it done May 11 and I have graduation May 24. Just making sure I will be able to go to graduation.

Please respond, I cant find ANYTHING on the internet that says how long it takes to recover.

Each person reacts differently to the surgery depending on general health and whether they have adhesions from previous surgeries. I had my 10 cm cyst, ovary and tube removed laparoscopically and felt pretty good after a week. I had no complications or difficulties. The first 2 days were the hardest between having trouble going to the bathroom and all the pulling, tugging pain in my belly. After that it was improvement each day.

The problem is you can't tell for sure what they might run into during the surgery. My doctor made it clear that she would try to remove things by way of small incisions but I might wake up with a big abdominal incision. So you should plan for a longer recovery just in case. Either way, I doubt that you'll feel like sitting in a car for 10 hours just a few days after surgery. No way will you be comfortable. Perhaps someone else could drive her to the apt. and you could visit in a couple weeks after she's settled in. Considering how long you've been having these health problems, it doesn't sound like a good idea to keep putting off the surgery.

As Jan promised, she sent me a note to follow up on your posting.  What kind of surgery are you having?  Just a laporascopy to biopsy, a laporascopy to remove cyst/ovary or hysterectomy, a laporatomy or a LAVH?  As Jan mentioned, depending upon what the surgery is at the very least it will be 2 weeks but if more involved you will likely not be able to drive for several weeks.  No matter what it will take time for your insides to heal.  I had a vertical cut laporatomy to remove cysts and right ovary and tube six weeks ago.  I was in the hosptial for 5 days, not allowed to drive for 4 weeks and was off work for 6 weeks.  Please don't do anything to hurt yourself or you will end up back in the hospital in bad shape.  Unfortunately you will not be in any shape to participate in that drive.  I wish you all the best and hope you'll keep us updated.

When are you scheduled for surgery?  Even if you had it today you wouldn't be ready to drive 10 hours or lift anything very heavy by Aug 12th.  It takes anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks to recover from that surgery even if it is less invasive than "stem to stern" surgery.  2 weeks is more like the time if they just take off a simple, easy to get to cyst.  I don't even think they will let you drive for quite awhile. I believe it is several weeks.
I am going to report this as miscategorized so that it can be put over to the cyst forum.  There are a bunch of women over there who are better equipped to answer this. Most of the women on here did not experience cysts before they had cancer.  I had 5 lap surgeries between the ages of 18 & 32, but still that was a long time ago, and things have changed.  I will write a friend on the cyst forum and ask her to look out for this question.
Good luck to you.
