joined group

ivejust joined the group. i am a former marine and have had issues for 17 years now with anger mood swngs depression panicing and several other small things. i have seen a med. dr. about my condition but the only shrinks ive talked to were the ones they make you see for va claims. they allowed i was looped so i reckon i am. most of all ive researched it on the net. and ive read a few things. i guess im apprehensive about seeing a shrink. i know i shouldnt be and that is the advise i give others but when it comes down to it... i avoid it. thing is i shouldnt even have this. i went to war but i dont recall going through anything that should have done this to me. dr. has me on effexor xanex and a heart med that has a side effect of mood flattening.

Welcome Derrin, I am glad you joined the site. My suggestion would be to research psychiatrists, do this by listening to others talk about their experiences with them and try to find one who is a christian as well. It is my personal opinion that they have a little more to bring to the table. Also research whatever drugs you are prescribed and educate yourself as to possible side effects. Another possiblitilty would be group therepy, or even a good program such as AA. You are not alone.

Welcome to the forum Derrin, I think you will find some comfort and help here, you are getting help and meds for your symptoms that is good ,they do say that therapy can help as you will get chance to talk it through, some of us are from Miltary backgrounds but our PTSD comes from other trauma we have had and like you are battling through and sometimes winning, there will be others to give you input, let us know how you are getting on,
