living with ptsd

I am new to this forum and just looking for advice on living with ptsd. I also have thyroid issues and the combination is devastating. I feel I am unable to function is society roght now. I worked in the health care field for many years and can no longer put a uniform on. Right now I am unemployed, don't think I could even interview for a job without them thinking I was crazy. I fear I might break down during an interview. I can no longer afford my psychologist so I am trying to rely on some coping mechanism she helped me with. Why is there no government coverage when it comes to mental health for seeing a psychologist. I am canadian and live in a smaller northern city. The wait lists are long due to shortages. Any advice is appreciated to help cope.

if you could try going to group therapy it is very good to do especially for PTSD which I have now since dec '94 it will not go away there also is an anti depressant they treat PTSD with. I have sleeping problems so they treated that with prazosin which reduces nightmares by lowering the blood pressure I sleep good now :)

Sorry you cant continue getting the help you need. Thats really hard when things like that happen. I havent been to any kind of group theropy but I have social anxiety so I understand how hard it would be to be in a group. Cuz I personally get nervous around people.

had to quit going to group therapy, the "group"became trigger for my anxiety,I could feel the distress and anxiety in the room,it was palable and I couldn't return, panic attack even thinking about it. I feel like I failed again, can't leave the house for too long. Yep, long winter

I am on prazosin too and it works great. Very low dose for me because of thyroid disease too. After I got treated for the PTSD with antidepressant and the prazosin, I was overmedicated. Ha! My body had relaxed enough it no longer needed the higher dose. I no longer jump/startle when someone comes into the room. Thank goodness for the right medications.
