what meds to treat for

I was brutalized and raped and pronounced dead ten years ago. I have been on long term hospitalization since, and high dosage of meds. I had severe post traumatic stress disorder and now am off of my meds bc of a very bad psychiatrist .
So that I do not require hospitalization again, what meds should I be asking for. Geodon and Trazodone have been given to me. any suggestions.

Hello,
I have taken a host of Anti Depressants, and Anti Anxiety meds. All of them made me feel numb emotionally. Some of them made me feel suicidal. At one point, because of the way MD's just keep adding meds to the mix, I was on 6 different psych meds. I finally put my foot down, and told them if a med is not working, we stop it, then start a different one.
In the long run, none of them helped me for my PTSD, because it is not a chemical imbalance. And I needed to be able to think clearly in order to get THROUGH the problem, rather than spending the rest of my life dancing around it.
I started weaning myself off the meds. It was HELL. Once you are addicted to a psych med, you have to withdraw from it. I went through months of feeling like the world was going "Flickity Flick" all the time, when I stopped the Effexor.
Anti anxiety meds made me gain weight until I was 185lbs at 5'6". I could not keep my foot on the accelerator of my car, for my poor circulation etc. When I stopped that med, I dropped 30 lbs in 1 month.
I am no longer on any prescription meds. Not even the beta blocker, because I could not feel the rapid heartbeat and burning when I was triggered, so I did not know I was triggered.
I am moving through therapy much faster now that I have the use of my mind. In my opinion, meds are given because you #1 have a psychiatrist, and  #2 because the MD doesn't want to deal with your problems.
I spent hours ad nauseum in therapists offices, droning on in my antidepressant haze. Not getting better, just in this "potato" limbo.
Once I took control, I felt better.
Now I am getting good therapy, EMDR and DNMS... No Meds.

I take prazosin. it helps drastically and helps with my sleep.  I am a survivor of long term sexual abuse.  It calms my nightmares and terrors.  it also helps with blood pressure.  it has had a positive affect on me.

I've went through similar things and also have PTSD; my psychiatrist told me the antipsychotics I've taken such as Geodon also are helping my PTSD which is true I guess as when I start relapsing the traumatic memories start becoming more invasive and start becoming flashbacks more among other unpleasant things.

i suffer from ptsd from a life long history of being raped from the age of 4 and then throughout my teenage years, then my sister was murdered, and so much more...

I don't think any of us on here can really suggest what meds you should take, only tell you what works for us. I take Seraquel. (if that's how u spell it) Unfortunately, the side effects on my body sucked!!! I gained about 100 lbs, over the first couple of years, but mentally I needed the meds, so that was the trade off. A lot of people with mental illness are not willing to go thru side effects, but I just started walking 4 months ago and changed my eating habits and have lost 20 lbs. It's takin 10 years for me to get well enough mentally to work on my physical stuff, but hey the day did eventually come.

Trazodone, is a very very mild anti-depressant in fact they don't even use it any more really for that reason. Most doctors prescribe it for a sleeping med because it makes you very drowsy.

Hang in there hon, your on the right track, and everyone out here is here for each other. We all come from the same place and we're all headed in the same direction, so keep posting....
