Could be Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ?

Hi,

1 year ago my mum had lung surgery and the surgeon removed the equivalent of 1 lung out. She didn't react well and was in the Intensive Care Unit for 1 month - 1 week of which she was heavily sedated, after her recovery from surgery she underwent Chemo for lung cancer. It is now 2 months on from Chemo and all was going good emotionally, until 4 days ago it was like she has lost her mind -
These are some of her symptoms
1. Talking with a slur and not making sense (almost has if on heavy drugs)
2. Dropping things
3. Can’t dress herself / no balance
4. Not eating unless I make her

This has come out of no-where - does any of this sound like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? Who should I take her to see - all GP's in our area are hopeless

Thank-you in advance.

Hello, this to me does not sound like PTSD. Typically PTSD is caused from some form of mental trauma. I think you should concider that either the cancer that your mom had has spread or the medication is too high or maybe she has even had a stroke. A suggestion would be possibly go to WebMD.com and there is an area where you can go under symptions and put in the signs. It can give u a list of ideas of what could be happening. Once you do this it is very possible that these signs will offer u a logical explaination. Hope this helps! Best wishes!!!

It could well be but also it could be the drugs she is on.... most powerful drugs have side effects some of them as you describe, ask her Doctor and see what he says,is she taking a few drugs as sometimes they interact with each other, and yes Doctors do miss this fact, you can ask the local drug store Pharmacist about drug interactions and even google it your self. Good luck hope she does okay its early days she will feel better soon I hope, let us know .
