Severe scalp pain

I have a relatively large area of pain on the back of my scalp, right side.  The pain typically lasts a few days, becomes less painful to almost pain free for a day or two, then back to horrible pain.  It wakes me up at night if I lie on my side with the area touching the pillow.  Going to the hairdresser has become almost unbearable. Just brushing my hair causes 9/10 pain.  My hair is very healthy but where there is scalp pain I am also experiencing severe knotting of the hair.  My hairdresser says there are no obvious areas of irritation or redness.  There is no history of head trauma. I do suffer from terminal heart failure and superior vena cava syndrome with almost complete blockage of the jugular vein on the right.  Wondering if this could be related to the decreased blood flow to my head.  I have to sleep in a recliner and cannot bend over for more than a few seconds or the decreased blood flow results in near syncope.  I am really struggling to find a reason or explanation for the discomfort.  I mentioned it to my family physician but I have so many life threatening conditions and it has always just been a problem on the back burner.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
