Abdominal Pain

About 3 weeks ago, I went river rafting and it was tough on my abdominal muscles, they were extremely sore after, especially on the right side.  I had felt a cough coming on the day before rafting but went anyway, and the day after was hacking up a lung.  I've had the cough for almost 3 weeks now then about a week and a half ago, I started experiencing a sharp pain in the lower right side of my abdomen every time I cough, laugh, get up, sit up... well anytime I use the muscles.  The pain is very dull to absent when I'm sitting or laying down.

Now, I'm really freaking out b/c I have had a few people tell me it could be appendicitis, and that I should go to a doctor immediately.  Do you think this is a pulled/strained/torn abdominal muscle?  Or should I go get my appendix checked out?  I'm supposed to leave on vacation tomorrow and don't want any 'EXPLODING' surprises.  HELP!

Hi jester,

First, I want to welcome you to the PM (Pain Management) Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. We are all CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other with our own expertise and experiences that we have developed through our own CP Issues.

Oh wow,  you sure don't want any "EXPLODING" surprises when you are on vacation!!  I would definitely go and have a Doctor check you out before you leave.  It could be appendix but it could also be Gallbladder or something gastrointestinal or a pulled abdominal muscle.  There are many different possibilities that need to be considered before leaving.  If you can't get in to see your Doctor then possibly an Urgent Care Clinic.

I hope that everything checks out OK!!  Also, I hope that you will keep us informed as to what you discover is going on with your abdomen.

Here's wishing you a wonderful vacation with loads of "safe" fun for all concerned!!

I'll be looking for your update..............Sherry  ;)
