Colitis, Gastroenteritis

Hi to all. I was recently Hospitalized with Gastroenteritis/Colitis and was wondering if anyone could give me some options for a good food regiment (liquid diet) that would help calm the intestines. I have had a recent infection including Colitis, Gastroenteritis (sp). I would also like to know what the best OTC antacid might be to calm the tummy. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank's Tuck. No the Hospital did not give me a diet to follow. They basically said soft foods. I am wondering about the dairy products. Do you think it is wise to hold off or not. I begged and pleaded with them to let me out for Halloween. I had a PCA along with other IV's...Dextrose was my best friend and all I had was puree oatmeal and yogart (very small amount) along with juice. The Doc was not avail but the nurse talked with her and by the grace of god, they let me go home early so I was wondering what the best diet would be. The last time I tried to eat I ended up with a GI bleed. So any suggestions on the food?
Thank's :)

Hi Mollyrae,

I have been wondering how you are. I'm glad you are back. I sorry you were in the hospital. You were missed.

Did the hospital not give you a diet to follow? I can do some research and get back to you but I am not diet savey. My son has Inflammatory Bowel Disease but his diet will be different than a liquid one

I really believe that the OTC antacid and it's effectiveness depends on the person. Rolaids seem to work the best for me. But 5 years ago Tums worked better. Be careful taking an antacid. There are many medications that the antacid will reduce it's effectiveness or is not recommend at all. Usually you can take them but they must be hours apart. So please check that against any medications you taking.

Welcome back. I hope you are soon feeling much better. Tuck
