Constipation with opiods

I had constipation before opiods. It’s awful now that I take them. I have tried all the new meds with no success. Has anyone else had success with a medicine or anything? I’m desperate. Or any narcotics that don’t cause constipation? Thanks

Unfortunately, opioids cause constipation and can be very difficult to manage. There are several medications that can be prescribed to deal with opioid induced constipation-Linzess I believe is one.
There are many over the counter helps- regular consumption of fiber, otc stool softeners, and laxatives.
It is vitally important you consume enough water as well, since constipation can be worsened by not enough hydration.

Yes, I've read that pretty much all opiate medications will cause constipation and that is a true bummer.  How's your hydration?  Any issues drinking water?  I'd increase it if you can.  And I heard from my doctor that drinking something like red grape juice can also aid in constipation.  Plenty of fiber and the usual things.  I'm afraid of laxatives because what can happen is that using them then becomes non negotiable and you HaVE to in order to have a bowel movement.  But temporarily, ya.  I'd do it.  And there is fleet, the enima.  Works well.  What does your doctor say?  Hydration is often the biggest key.
