Cronic back pain

My first post. I been dealing with muscle spasms for 4 years and gone thru a few doc's on the way. I'm still dealing with the spasms in my left lower back. I had a ATV accident in 2004 with multiple fractures. The one i'm still dealing withis from a compression fracture L1-T11 i been to 3 pain clinics and they all done the same thing injections, botox and blocks noyhing helped so far. The PT helped for a while put hit a wall at a certainn point and could not get stronger or relive my pain. I'm on vicoprofen daily and that numbs it up pretty good. Antbody in here with the same problem i have. My last pain doc put me on suboxone and told me this will take care of the pain thought i had a addictive personality. I dont abuse the meds so i dont know why he did that but i trusted him and stayed on it for about 6-8 months. I quit and went back on the vicoprofen 3 days ago and doing better as far as pain level. My doc is great very understanable and listening.Anyway let me know if you have any sucess getting better from the pain i have. Thanks,f1swede

I'm very sorry for the pain that you are going through. I also have severe chronic pain. I have hurniated discs in the back, SI joint disease, and Sciatica due to a work related injury. Last may I was also shot in the abdomen with a 45 caliber gun. I have been on every opiod imaginable over that past five years. The Dr.'s started thinking that I was just a "drug seeker" Ironically I  have been seeing a psychiatrist for about 2 yrs and he knows that I have legitimate chronic pain, and he is the one prescribing my pain meds. I am currently on methadone 90mg/day and it works very well. Methadone actually works better than morphine does. There are three opiod receptors in your brain, MU, Delta, and MDNA (or something like that)  Morphine online binds the the MU opiod receptor, and methadone binds to all three opiod receptor, and methadone also has an extremely long half life, and methadone is safe to use for LONG term chronic pain use! Unless the majority of other opiods. I have also tried suboxone, and it barely had any effect on my pain relief. I hope that I could be somewhat of help.
I wish you nothing but the best! Feel free to ask me any questions you have.

Hello F1swede,

I'd like to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum of MedHelp. I am glad you found us. I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing painful spasms. Sometimes we don't have a lot of member participation on weekends so responses maybe slower.

I do not have the injury that you sustained so I am sorry but I cannot answer your question first hand. I have known others with similar injuries and they suffered varying degrees of residual pain and spasms for various amounts of time. I do not know any that there pain completely resolved but that doesn't mean it won't happen for you. You are very lucky to have a caring and compassionate physician. I don't understand why you are not taking muscle relaxants to help with the spasms. They may be helpful.

I wish you the very best and am hopeful someone will post with more direct experience with your injury. Thank you for posting. Fell free to post again if you do not obtain the answers you are looking for and please take care, Tuck

Hello Again Swede,

I am glad you like our Forum. I have found it to be a lifesaver. I have made many friends and found wonderful support and suggestions here.

I tried lots of muscle relaxants and none seemed very effective. My PCP finally convinced me to try Diazapam. I was very reluctant because of all the bad press it gets but she assured me I should not be concerned with that. I do not abuse meds and take them as sparingly as possible. I have found Diazapam to be very effective. Granted I usually only use it several times a week at most, much less than it is prescribed. It has been the only relaxant that has effectively stopped or greatly reduced my muscle spams. I probably wait too long before I take it but I do know the side effects of the medication and am very careful with it. You may want to ask your physician if he/she will prescribe it for you on a trial basis. He may not if he too believes you have an addictive personality.

Again best of luck and keep me posted. Take Care, Tuck
