Cutting Fentanyl Patches???

I use the Mylan Fentanyl patches and wonder if they can be cut to help with tapering.  I see a Pain Doc Specialist for my back and chronic pain...last disc replacement was in October 2013.  All my meds are from him and used as prescribed, I'm just interested in getting through this weaning process quicker you know?  I keep getting differing opinions online.  Thank you for your help.

Look. I keep running across your posts, and need to ask why you are having these profoundly guilty feelings...? Is someone in your life throwing stuff about this subject at you? I've been there. Perhaps I can help. Dix

Thanks so much for the reply and information.  I was hoping I could cut the Mylan brand but don't want to do anything to cause any risk to myself.
I'm so done with all these meds and have such guilt that I have a dependence on them.  I wish Doctors would warn patients of these risks because I had no idea...I take everything as prescribed and certainly appreciate the help with the pain but I'm ready to see how I actually feel pain else with no meds in my system at all cuz I feel like I'm just not me anymore.

No,
if you cut the patch it is opened and will leak. The dose is Not adjustable by the user only a dr can adjust it by prescribing a lower dose.
If you need a smaller dose or it spread out over a longer time talk to your doctor, He can change the dosage or get you other meds that might work for your situation. If your doctor wont work with you see another pain specialist.

Pharmacist are excellent resources and they can recommend other option that make winging you off it easier. Like the Thomas recipe, below are some links that may be helpful, copy the entire link and paste in address bar, it will take you to each article. I used liquid vitamins and magnesium Maleate and it seemed to work better.

If someone alters their time release mechanism of their meds there can be dire consequences.

Talk to your doctor and pharmacist they can help the most.
