Dependence

I think medhelp should have a pain medicine dependence and tolerance community. Maybe a group for us with chronic pain that has been place on meds to make our lives bearable.

You have a story I've heard so often here - and we do understand. You have pain that requires opiate therapy. Like many of us we've done all the things that was recommended and they proved ineffective in the long run or sometimes made things worse for a variety of reasons. Remar did a splendid job of responding to you. I agree with her and I have little to add.

Now about having a Forum for ppl such as yourself - we do have ppl like you as members of our forum. They are not always as active as we would like, they come and go but you are not the only one.  I doubt a forum for ppl that have had to return to opiates after using the great support of our Substance Abuse Forum offer would be very active. Many of us have stopped taking opiates only to find we could not function without them. We are not addicts, we have Chronic Pain and depend on opiates to manage it.

You have two choices - can make your request know to MH by clicking on the "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page - or you may begin your own Group. It won't be a forum or community but it will be a Group within MedHelp  -  such as one of our most popular Groups called The Chronic Pain Couch. I'll provide a link to that one so you can take a look. If you need any assistance please let me know. I helped get the Couch up and going some years ago. If you decide to begin a Group I'll help - if needed.

I hope you'll be active in our community no matter what you decide. You have a lot to offer. We all support and learn from one another.

Take Care,
~Tuck

I'm so sorry about your back and what you've been through.
I don't believe there are any of us here that like taking pain medication. If we want to have any kind of life we have to.
With everything that's going on with the pain laws you're very lucky to have such a caring Dr who understands pain. If you go through the posts here you will read so many from people who have been let go from pain management and just don't know what to do because they need medication.
Never feel bad for needing meds to live a somewhat normal life. It does not make you an addict. I went through the same thing when I first started taking pain meds. I felt ashamed and felt like a weak person. And then I though, why would I go without meds  if they help and I can do some of the things I need to do. Without them I would have no kind of life, I would be in bed or on the couch all day long.
Your Dr had a very valid question and he asked it for a reason. With meds you do have a better life. Without them you don't.
I know the forum you're talking about and I understand why there's no support when you go back on meds. They're there to support people that have an addiction. You don't, you're dependent on your meds and it's for a very good reason. Thank goodness for all of the forums we have here.
We're always here to support you no matter what you decide to do.

Thank y'all very much. I have been in pain management since 2008, back fusion 2009, long recovery, but did my best with meds and injections to have some sort of normal life. Well as you all too well know things have changed in pain management with narcotics, they act as if we are all junkies, so I thought maybe I should stop, but really needed them, life without was horrible, after a month, my dr talked to me and told me to compare life with and life without, told me I was dependent, not an addict. So I went back on. Life is not perfect, but at least I get some relief after a long day/night at work, when I wake up, and when I want to enjoy a day out shopping or something. We feel guilt enough with the pain we endure everyday, without, nurses, doctors, and pharmacy making us feel like junkies.

The reason I wrote my post in the other community, is because some of us pain management have to go to that forum to get off our meds, but when we go back on, the support is gone, just wonder if we could have a community to specialize in this. Thank y'all so much for your support.

Hello Timetobefree,

Welcome to our Pain Management Community. I'm delighted you were directed to us by these awesome and informative MedHelp members.

I and other members have Chronic Pain  - most, if not all of us are prescribed opiates to manage our pain conditions.

Do you have a question - or like many of us are you just seeking support at this time - or both?
