Dont know what to do anymore

I have been on heavy narcotics for my EDS type 3 for 5 years... I have become dependant on them and now they are not helping with the pain... I don't want to take them anymore. I don't know if I should accept something heavier because I am only 22. I am scared for the withdrawals ad I have had them before and am a SAHM and can't just lay around in agony...

Idk what do to.....

Thank you once again for the update. So often ppl come here and give detailed explanations of horrid sounding painful conditions. We offer suggestions and information and never hear from the again. :0(   So your continued contact is more appreciated than you can imagine.

I'm happy they found the reason for your pain - now it's important that they treat your pain effectively.

How are you feeling?  - other than relieved you have a reason for additional pain?

Peace,
~Tuck

Well we found a reason for the new pain. The EDS causes the other pain I am in... It is genetic. I have had it all my life. I was only tested and diagnosed 5 years ago...

I'm happy they found a reason for your increased pain and are treating it. I've heard good things about Diclofenac.

Thanks for the update. Keep in touch plz.

Squishy,

Have you seen Zyp Czyk's EDS Info pages?

https://edsinfo.wordpress.com/all-about-eds/ehlers-danlos-syndrome-description/

Plenty of information, plenty of commentary. Zyp is highly  prolific, a good writer, and a great young woman. Her spirit is indomitable.

I think you'd enjoy both the information, and her blog.

No I started at a lower dose and they repeatedly upped it. They found that I have a chipped bone in my ankle... My Ehlers Danlos does stuff like that. The smallest bump can cause hefty injuries...

They changed anti depressants and added Diclofenac.

I am glad that you are bringing this issue up with your PMP - even if you've been there before. It may take you repeatedly saying "help me" before the PMP gets it. Don't give up.

Please let us know how your appt goes today. I truly wish you well.

Peace,
~Tuck

I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. Tuck gave you great advice. Welcome to the Pain forum. I think you will find the members here to be very kind, caring and informative.
I see you've been on pain medications for 3 to 5 years. Has it been the same pain med at the same dose? I'm asking because it's not that uncommon for chronic pain patients to need a higher dose or build a tolerance and have to change meds altogether. This what Tuck explained to you.
Talk to your Dr and ask if he/she is familiar with your situation. I really hope he is.
I went through the same thing about 6 months ago. My medication had stopped working so my Dr and I decided to switch to another one and it's working well.
Please keep us up to date on how you're doing. We're always here to listen and help anyway we can.

Hey Tuck...

You have done your research. That means a lot.... I am going tomorrow to speak with the doctor. I have presented this issue before and was informed that the current regimen is the best option... Switching doctors is a hassle as I am in pain management..... There would be a lapse in pain medicine of any kind which is worse than the meds not working well.

I have and am going to again speak to my PMP, I just needed some insight from people who have been through this too.....

Hello and Welcome to our Pain Management Forum. I'm glad you found us but sorry to hear about your pain and situation.

For our members that don't know this is EDS: The Hypermobility Type of EDS is characterized by loose joints and chronic joint pain. This form of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome was formerly called type III.  Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Hypermobility Type is a subtype of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

And again for those that don't know: Acronym Definition; SAHM: Stay At Home Mom.

You have reason for pain. I understand that at 22 you are concerned about any amount of opiates you must take for your pain. We Chronic Pain patients are often caught in that Catch 22. No one wants to take opiates but for most of us we have no choice if we some type of normal life and function. I assume the same is true for you.

I think this decision is to large for one person to decide alone. Talk to your prescribing physician. Discuss the pros and cons. You're correct, your body is dependent on the opiates. It may be time to switch opiates if you have built tolerance. It's also possible that your condition is becoming worse and the current opiates are not effectively controlling your sx. What ever the situation your physicians can help you with the plan.

Yes withdrawal can be difficult - but many have gone through it successfully. There are medications and things that you can do like exercise, healthy eating and plenty of fluids that will ease some of the symptoms. We are not the forum that can offer you the most suggestions in this arena. If you decide to go that route his a link to our forum that can help you:

http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Addiction-Substance-Abuse/show/77

Again I encourage you to discuss this with your PMP. I wish you the best and hope you'll keep in touch.

Take Care,
~Tuck
