Writing for controlled medications like pain pills requires a special license issued by the DEA.
Some doctors chose not to get this license, others have it taken away because they're being disciplined for some reason. That doesn't mean they've done something wrong, necessarily. I've known doctors who are disciplined because of a patients misbehavior.
Then there are docs who tell you they cannot write when really, they choose not to write for one reason or another.
If one doc won't write, find another pain doc who will. Many live with this relationship -- a PCP who won't write for pain meds, and a pain specialist who will.
Best wishes.
Why will my primary doctor write not able to write prescriptions I was completely out of med and he told he couldn't he would lose his license, why can some write them and some cant
I really hope everything works out for you. What your pain Dr did does not make any sense at all. You've followed all the rules and never failed a test. If a person you knew failed their test this has nothing to do with you.
Are you saying you don't have a primary care physician?
I don't understand this at all. Were you accused of taking your friend's meds, also?
How did you violate your controlled substance agreement?
Thank you so very much for your post and advice because i am totally at my wit's end because I can't find another PCP that is willing to accept me being that I would be new patient and for taking the medications I take. I am going to call my doctor first thing this morning when they open and I hope my doctor is as understanding and sympathetic as your doctor is because in all actuality it would be the right thing to do. I will keep you posted and once again, thank you very much for your advice.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. It makes no sense at all. Yes, I would think the HIPPA privacy act would not allow your Dr to give you any information on any other patient. And to drop you because the other patient failed their test is just not right.
I'm not sure if these new laws have Drs so scared or what's going on. I've been hearing of people either not being able to see a pain specialist or getting dropped for no good reason.
If I were you I would call my primary Dr and get in right away. Tell him/her what happened and that you need your medication until you can find another pain specialist. This is what I had to to do. My primary recommended I see a pain specialist and after trying to get in for a month and having all of my records sent to her she said she could not take me as a patient. So, the only option I had was to call my primary Dr to let her know what happened and she had me come in that day to pick up my prescription because I was almost out. I have an appointment with her in a few days so we can sit down together and find a pain specialist. I really recommend you do this. It can take awhile to get in to a pain clinic and one that I called about said they would not prescribe any medication for a month. Give your primary a Dr today.
I really hope everything works out for you. I'm sorry this is such a long message. It's just very upsetting to read a post like yours where you did not do a thing wrong and you're being punished for it.
Please keep us up to date on how you're doing. We're here to listen and help anyway we can.
