Hi Jonnswife,
Welcome to the Pain Management Community. I'm glad you found us and took the time to post.
I did have some relief with OxyContin/Oxycodone but it wasn't significant. As Phil says we all metabolize opiates differently and what works for me doesn't necessarily mean it will work for someone else.
It can be difficult to build a good doctor patient relationship. Some physicians just don't have it in them - they are not into relationship building. When you can build a relationship it's based on truth and honesty. You should be able to tell your PMP anything about your pain and he/she should share their reasons/rational for the things that they do - or don't do in your pain management. As Phil said, it's a partnership - or it certainly should be.
I also agree that we should educate our self as much as possible regarding our conditions. so we can have a give and take intelligent discussions. I actually believe I know more than many of my physicians in several of my conditions - because I have educated myself. If you haven't it will behoove you to do the same.
You should not have to suffer with poorly managed pain. The only way this can change is to be truthful with your PMP. I wish you the very best and hope you'll let us know how you are doing.
Take Care,
~Tuck
Personally, I receive little pain relief from oxycodone. Doesn't matter what the dose.
Some people just don't metabolize specific medications well.
I get more relief from morphine. Have you tried MSContin?
Talk to your doctor -- treat your relationship as a partnership. But that includes responsibilities too. Start educating yourself.
