Fentanyl Withdrawel time period

I was on the Fentanyl patch (1 no 50mg patch and 1 no 75mg patch) for about 6-7 months but wasn't getting on with them.  The first doctor I saw told me to just take my patches off and replace it with a 50mg Buphrenorphine one. About 4 hours later I was starting to feel strange and then that evening went into cold turkey. Thought I was dying I felt that bad. Had to call the doctor out, she gave me an injection (can't remember the name of it, was a bit out of it at the time). I suffered from the Thursday through to the Monday, when I finally managed to get back out of bed having put a Fentanyl patch back on.

On the Monday I went and saw my usualy doctor who wasn't very happy to hear about what the other doctor had done. She told me to take of the patch but replaced it with 2 no 50mg Buphrenorphine ones and Oramorph. I have been on these now for 2 weeks.

The doctor has said that she wants me off the Fentanyl and Oramorph with the 2 weeks, but if I try and go a day without the Oramorph I start to get the withdrawel symptoms again.

Can anyone tell me how long these symptoms take to wear off. I start to get very depressed, just want to sleep and start to ache.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Michelle

I'm sorry. I reread my message to you and it didn't sound right. I meant.....our doctors call in scripts of Clonidine for our patients. Did you ask your doc it you can try it?

I went to see the doctor yesterday for a review and she has given me another 8 bottles of Oramorph and said she wants me off it in 2 weeks. I am worried that she is going to stop it and I go cold turkey again.

Hi

No my doctor has not mentioned Clonidine, they have just give me the Oramorph, but if I go for longer than 4 hours without it the w/d kicks back in.

Hello. Sorry to hear about the withdrawl you might experience. Has your doctor offered to put you on Clonidine for the withdrawls? I work for a pain management practice and we can call in a script for Clonidine to help with the withdrawls. You might want to check into this. Good Luck! You can do it.

Hello, I am actually day 26 off the fentanyl patch.  I'm not going to lie, it was the hardest thing I have ever done.  Congrats on making the decision to take the patch off.  It really is the best choice.  I was on it for 2 years.  That thing caused so many probs.  I wasn't myself anymore.  Very grouchy, tired, unmotivated, etc.

I can tell you what to expect.  I can help you out.  When I came off the patch, there weren't too many people around to help but those that did were a Godsent.  If you like, you can click my name and see my posts from when I came off.  Or, you can feel free to send me a private message and we can go from there.
