Groin pain for over 2 months...

Doing cartwheels I pulled my groin really bad in july and I am still on the couch in pain.  I have an appointment with a sports therapist for tuesday but I don't know what to do to deal until then. I have also irritated my sciatic nerve so my lower abdomen has been numb and I get electric shocks when my back moves in different directions.... I have been practicing price and have limited my activities, barely work and I am using crutches when its real bad.  I am regularly taking ibprofuren but I have bad opiate addiction so I can't take pain meds...  I ran out of flexerils but nothing but laying down and ice are my only saving grace.  I am just wondering if I can get any tips on what or what not to do until tuesday?  Thanks for your help, not sure if this is the right forum but I am trying to stay off the pain med forums...

thank you so much for responding!  I just moved to a new city and I haven't found a good primary dr....  The last dr. was not helpful and told me to stretch my groin when it was hurting, which I thought is the wrong thing to do?  I may get a second opinion after I see the sports dr. on tuesday....  Thanks for your advice, I just continue to take it easy and use the crutches and ice for pain... thanks...

Hi there!

Numbness around the abdomen region is unlikely to be related to the sciatic nerve, while groin pain can have a number of causes which aside neurological could also be related to internal abdominal or groin structures. Pain while moving the back could be related to spinal/ neural issues or this could also be referred pain from other internal organs. Well, instead of seeing a sports therapist at this stage, I would suggest seeing a primary care physician to rule out other possible issues. Depending on the cause diagnosed or suspected, your symptoms can be managed accordingly or specialist care may be sought. Also without a diagnosis at hand it would be difficult to suggest the measures that you could use meanwhile for pain relief. If the pain is severe/ unbearable you may consider a visit to the ER.
Hope this is useful.

Take care!
